Bryan - You are correct, teh capacity makes it illegal in Colorado. I spoke to a Buds customer service rep a few days ago, and they told me if a customer wants to buy a firearm and the magazine is the only thing making that firearm illegal in their home state, the customer should call Buds and ask them to simply take out the magazine. You could then buy your own, state compliant, magazines from wherever you choose. So give them a call at 1-859-368-0371 (9am-9pm EST Mon-Fri) or use the "chat now" button located at the bottom right hand portion of your screen, (9am-9pm EST 7 days a week) and ask Bud's directly.

They are proprietary. I suggest using factory ruger mags for your mini 14, though some aftermarket makes are ok.

Is this rifle legal to own in New York if I am a civilian? Is this considered an assault rifle or a hunting rifle? I currently own a Savage 111 and a Remington M710 and walked in/out of the gun store with it so I don't think it should be a problem, right?

This is a no no in New York. The detachable mag with telescopic stock, muzzle brake, pistol grip all combined make it an assault weapon to the state of NY. Sorry to say this, but its banned for NY.

Awesome little back country pack gun. The M1 style rotating bolt is a tried and true design that’s reliable as all get out. The sights are easy to pick up and the folding feature is great if you do a lot of hiking. Zero purchase regret.

I absolutely love using this model of the Mini-14. I always loved the Garand style of the Mini-14, and when I saw this model, I had to check it out. Very comfortable to hold and fire. It's very accurate, even after heating up the barrel with rapid firing. I gave up carrying the AR-15 as a patrol officer, and started carrying this instead. The folding stock works very well for close quarters, like while clearing rooms. I've put thousands of rounds through this rifle while training and never have had a problem with the cycling. There are only two things that would make this rifle better: 1) Magazines that are cheaper and interchangeable with AR mags. 2) Larger or raised iron sights. The iron sights work just fine, and look good. However, you can't co-witness the sights with a mounted optic. It's an excellent, reliable, rifle for any situation. I was even more accurate while firing rapidly, than I was with an AR. The gun is weighted/balanced nicely to keep muzzle rise to a minimum. It does everything an AR does. Just don't expect it to actually be an AR. It's different a feel and different handling. If you're used to AR-style rifles, like I was, it will take a bit of practice to get used to the differences.

Ruger is truly the working mans firearm. They build quality guns and have pricing that doesn't break the bank. This is my first Mini 14 and it has given me the incentive to add a Mini 30 to my arsenal. All around this a great gun and shoots straight right out of the box.

I got this mini 14 from Buds Gun Shop at what I would call a fantastic price for what I received. Ruger hit this one out of the park, I have had a earlier mini 14 which is OK but disappointed Me somewhat. This mini 14 makes up for that. I have other products purchased from Buds that I have not rated ,Yet but that have been excellent as well.

To start, this rifle is too expensive for what it is (-1 star). Having said that, it's a joy to shoot! I took it out to the range and several of us got a chance to shoot a mag or two through it. Put a Sparc2 on top and didn't have to zero it to hit a target at 50 & 100 yards. Looking to put a PA 1X6 on top permanently and hitting targets 200 yards and in. Compared to an AR, this rifle isn't quite as versatile, but the action is very smooth and makes easy work of any targets I may put in front of it. Now I'm encouraged to get a real M1 carbine.
