Strength, Simplicity and Ruggedness. Ruger® GP100® double-action revolvers are among the most comfortable shooting revolvers. Their rugged, medium-sized frame and grip system permit repeated firings with minimal shooter fatigue.

Easy on the hand and budget, all GP100 revolvers boast solid steel sidewalls (no side-plates), and frame widths that are increased with extra steel in critical areas that support the barrel, making them rugged, reliable, and dependable.

Pretty nice finish and made into modules. Front sight is spring loaded and easy to change. Rear sight was way left and shot way left. Went to adjust and the rear blade broke. Its very thin and fragile. Mine had been assembeled wrong. The spring goes in first, blade then screw. Nice gun though. Quit talking about buds and tell about the pistol!!!

Very fun to shoot this brute. Had good groups 10 and 15 yds. The trigger pull is smooth in double action and very short in single. This is my first revolver and I like this gun more than most of my automatics.

I purchased a Ruger GP 100 4" 357 mag revolver Blued finish from Buds last month. I selected on of their preferred FFL people and had zip problems
completing the sale. All i had to do was pay $35 for the NCIS check up and I was up and running immediately. The store I choose will get my business
for speed loaders and some ammo and extras. I like to do biz with a company where I live. They where polite and helpful and because of this, I would
highly recommend anyone to use Buds to purchase a fine firearm. They made this whole transaction painless and seamless.

Been looking at this one for a while and the S&W 686. Based on my research, this one was the right one. I ordered from Bud's and got excellent service. Gun arrived in new condition and quickly to my FFL. Put 40 rounds through her. The trigger is good on DA and a breeze in SA, recoil is manageable, and accuracy is great. This one is a beast; large, rugged and built to last forever. I'm very pleased with this and recommend this outstanding revolver.

After going through countless autos and a few snubs, I had my eye on finally picking up a full-size revolver for both concealed carry and range use. After a lot of research, I settled on the Ruger GP100 for multiple reasons. It is made in the USA by a reputable manufacturer and has a proven track record. It arrived in a plain Ruger plastic case with paperwork, lock, and test cartridge. Gun only had light factory oil on it and did not require a laborious cleaning before range time. Picking the gun up for the first time, the gun feels like what you thought a gun should feel like when you were a kid- the thing is an absolute monster, tipping the scales at 2.5 pounds. It's a solid chunk of steel that feels like it could be just as easily be at home playing the role of a medieval bludgeon weapon as a modern revolver. Cylinder lock up is very tight with only the barest perceivable wiggle and no visible space in the cylinder gap. It comes with a plain blade front sight, adjustable rear sight, and one piece rubber Hogue grips. I ordered a Hiviz fiber optic front sight the same day as I ordered the revolver, and its a cinch to install, requiring only a small punch or other thin enough metal tool- the sight is spring-loaded and switches out in less than a minute, no retaining pins or gunsmiths required. The Hogue grips, on the other hand, are just about the ugliest things every invented by man; not only are they ugly, but they are less than ideal for carry purposes, being very large and having a texture that clings to clothing. I had a set of Altamont checkered rosewood grips waiting for the pistol when it arrived, which provide a much more ergonomic grip and turns it from a howler into something quite handsome.
In terms of performance, I could not be more pleased. First range trip I fired 200 mixed rounds, .38 spc, .38 spc P, and .357 magnums. The weapon's weight goes a long way towards taming any perceived recoil. Shooting plain 38 feels like shooting a .22. P obviously has a little more bite but could still be shot comfortably all day long. Magnums crank up the recoil and report/flash quite a bit, but once again, thanks to the gun's weight and the Altamont grips, it is easily controllable and far from unpleasant. Interestingly enough, considering my lack of revolver experience, this has become the most accurate pistol I own- the first cylinder I fired was P rounds at 7 yards and I was able to put them all in the center bullseye, each shot stacked on top of the other and only covering about 1". Whether or not I saw improved performance with the fiber optic sight, I cannot say. Single action is a very light 3-4 pounds, while the double action is smooth with no stack. And of course, being a revolver, there were no malfunctions of any kind.
If I was buying this just for range use or home defense, I probably would have got the 6" model, but since I planned to carry it, I felt that the 4" was a better choice. I don't have a belt holster that it can fit in yet, but I have carried it just fine in a generic shoulder holster that fits my larger autos, like my Beretta M9 and 1911. Considering its weight, however, I would certainly recommend a sturdy belt if you intend to belt carry.
All in all, I am quite pleased with the GP100 and would definitely recommend it to anyone who is looking to get into the revolver market without completely breaking the bank. The gun is solid and feels like it could easily outlast me- I would not hesitate to pick one up if you are on the fence about it. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because of the Hogue grips, and unfortunately, due to the grip design of the GP100, finding an alternate set will generally run at least $45.
