Had it zeroed at 100 yds with 2 shots, following 3 shot group was 1/2". Mounted a 3×9×40 mm bushnell prime scope on it. It's not a "lightweight" rifle by any means, but very accurate. Hope to use it on some big woods fox and coyotes this winter.

Nice gun but it does not come with the fluted barrel

My new Savage Model 25 Lightweight Varminter in .17 Hornet is a robust rifle overall. The laminate stock is very nice and the fit-n-finish with metal is also very nice. The bolt is large and heavy with three large lugs. It has a nice jeweled finish. The barrel is heavy contour with crown.
I have found two negatives. First, the quality of the matte finish on the receiver, and especially the barrel, is not evenly applied and is rough in places. Second, the magazine release latch on the bottom plate (plastic) is a small flimsy piece of plastic. I am going to have to be careful when inserting and ejecting the magazine that I don't break the plastic latch.
In the future I will avoid Savage products, but in the case of the .17 Hornet I didn't have many choices.

Bud's always impresses on price and service. Hard to find complaints with any Savage firearm, the model 25 is the same. Great trigger, nice wood, shooting under .750 moa with factory ammo.

Pros: Nicely finished metal and wood. Flawless feeding .Nice accuracy . Nice trigger . Cons. Not a walk around rifle , heavy . Bolt does not lock in place . Easy to move bolt to unlocked position through normal handling in the field rubbing against it etc.. The design of the bolt and handle seem cheap and awkward for the price range this rifle is in . For half the price you can buy a Howa rifle with a much better quality traditional bolt action . My personal taste here . My opinion this rifle is over priced for what you get for your money .

During the first range session the trigger would lock up and the rifle could not be fired. I would have to open and close the action, however the trigger problem was evident about every other round. I sent the rifle back to Savage for warranty repair. When I received it back, I noticed that when I would pull the bolt to the rear to extract an empty, the bolt would sometimes come right out of the carrier. That was enough. Last Savage for me. I sold it (at a substantial loss after declaring it's issues) and bought a CZ 527 varmint in .17 Hornet. Great rifle.
