A solid, reliable rifle as one should expect from this time-tested family of bolt action weapons. My only complaint is that no effort was made at all to zero the scope before shipping, which requires the new owner (me) to wasted several costly rounds just trying to get on the entire target before beginning the process of actually fine tuning. I'm sure they just mounted the scope and did nothing in the way of adjusting. Obviously, this is not a flaw or fault in the weapon or scope. It's seller laziness/inconsideration. No, it's not an expensive rifle, but for 500 bucks, they could take 10 mins and at least adjust it enough to land a shot in the circle at 100 yds.

This is a good rifle, BUT the scope was NOT bore-sighted, not even close. The first shot through this rifle wasn't even on the paper at 25 yards, eventually, we figured out it was at 2 o'clock about a foot off, at 25 yards. Since I didn't have a rifle clamp, it took me nearly a full box of ammo to get this sighted in to be accurate at 100 yards. Kind of frustrating for a gun advertised as "ready to go".
I like the Nikon Scope a lot. It's one of the nicest scopes I've looked through at this point.

Rifle it's self works great fires great and very accurate. Scope was completely off, looks like they just dropped a scope on and thru it out the door. Screws weren't as tight as they should have been, scope cross hairs were crooked to the left noticeably. I had to get the scope realigned and reinstalled, so not a ready to go rifle like they advertised. Other than that I have no other problems, rifle functions perfectly and surprisingly very smooth action.

Savage 11 TH XP 308 NIKON....a great gun. The pros - without saying, Bud's service continues to be excellent, quick delivery and the best pricing. I took this rifle to the range on 8-28 and after sighting it in, it was a tack-driver. I shot at 50, 100 and 200 yards and was able to hit dead center of a 1" bull. Every 2nd or 3rd shot always touched the 1st shot. The cons - I expected the scope to be bore sighted, it was not. I started at 100 yds. and could not hit the paper (18" X 26") after 2 shots. I move to 50 yds. and the 1st two holes were 15" low and 5" to the left. After a few adjustments, I was able to hit the center with 3 shots, the same at 100 and then 200 yds. With the low cost of this fine weapon, I should not complain to much, however, I feel Savage could have done a better job with bore sighting, for the betterment of their reputation. Ron

    Yes Michael. The barrel itself is carbon steel with a matte finish, consistent with its intended field use. The action mounts to the stock with a large Allen screws just forward of the magazine and on front and back of the trigger assembly. The barrel is free-floated and I could easily run a business card between stock and barrel all the way back to the receiver.
