The Thompson Custom 1911 frames are machined on high precision computerized machinery from a 420 stainless steel casting. The slide is machined from a solid stainless steel billet utilizing specialized tooling to reduce set-up and refixturing. The combination of high precision equipment and fewer set-ups result in a higher quality and more consistent final product at a lower price. The slide and frame are finished in an attractive matte finish, markings are laser-engraved including the distinctive Thompson bullet logo on the slide. Front and rear sights are black with serrations and are dovetailed into the slide. The ejection port is flared and the slide has front and rear serrations machined at a slight angle. The mainspring housing is checkered and the frontstrap is machine checkered at 20 lines per inch. Additional features include an adjustable trigger, combat hammer, stainless steel, full-length recoil guide rod, extended beavertail grip safety; extended magazine release; checkered laminate grips with a Thompson bullet logo inlay and a checkered slide stop lever.

I really think this is the one of the sleepers among the American made sub 1k 1911's out there. The gun is beautifully finished and well fitted (not too tight to impede function, but not loose). It is also rare in that is has front strap checkering and no plastic parts. Sights are metal on mine as is the checkered mainspring housing. The finish is a beautiful bead blasted satin. My only dislike is the safety engagement was a bit too easy for my tastes. A stretch of the plunger tube spring fixed that. I also am not a big fan of full length guide rods so I swapped it out for a GI setup.

The good: Shoots great, very accurate. The bad: Castings marks on frame and slide stop, had to send in under warranty for non-functioning grip safety. It was fixed but not correctly, now when I rack the slide the grip safety sticks in the "fire" position. Have to send back to Auto Ordnance...AGAIN! No fault of Buds, they are excellent. So save your money and buy a real 1911. I got a real dog here. :(

Fantastic! I was looking for a 1911 that was American made and found this beauty. When I read that it was made by Kahr Arms in Worcester, MA I knew I had to buy it! Kahr has a reputation for building quality guns and this is no exception. I've got 200 trouble free rounds down the tube so far with zero malfunctions. I love the way this gun looks. The wood grips are some of the nicest I've ever seen on a 1911. My next 1911 will be another Auto Ordnance/Kahr!

I bought this gun on a whim just to have a Thompson1911 to go with my Tommy Gun. I never even knew Thompson made 1911s. I took a big chance knowing relatively nothing about the gun. I was very pleasantly surprised when it arrived. It includes custom features usually found on much more expensive 1911s. The fit and finish rivals my Colts and Kimbers. The trigger is surprisingly nice with very little creep. The grips are really nice wood with the Auto Ordnance/ Thompson medallion. All contols are nicely fitted. The only thing I can remotely complain about are the sights. They are very simple black blade sights. However, I can shoot this gun much better than many other guns with three dot sights. It only comes with one magazine but Auto Ordnance has a promotion going on through the end of the year for a free magazine by mail. This makes this an even better bargain.

I have finally found a 1911 that I like very much. This pistol is easy to shoot, dependable, accurate and light enough to carry all day. It took about 500 rounds to break-in and after that I can shoot 1 inch clusters at 25 feet consistently. The Thompson looks great and I love shooting it.
