Never had a problem with a Rossi lever action. Always reliable and extremely accurate.

I have mixed feelings about this rifle. I like it but not in it's original form. It was so ruff out of the box that it cycled like it had rocks in it and ejected brass into the next county. The wood to metal fit was ok but the wood grain and walnut finish sucked and the forearm was odd shaped like it had been cut with a band saw and not finished. I know, we are talking about a $500 rifle. So, to make this rifle worth a darn, I highly recommend that work be done to it according to Nate Kiowa Jones, the Rossi R-92 expert. Otherwise, pass on this gun and spend a grand and get a good rifle. To me this is a kit gun, you get all of the parts but you have to finish them and make them work. If you are willing to do the work like I did, then you will end up with a great little rifle.

I had read all of the horror stories about Rossi rifles. You know the ones, chunks of milling metal falling out of the action, wood finish like shoe polish. I bought one anyway. That was a .44 Mag in Stainless steel. I like it so much, I bought a second, 24 inch Oct blue in 45 Colt. And now to the weapon of this review, yes another one. The fit and finish has only gotten better. The wood on this latest one is not on par with a custom stock, but every bit as nice as any other production stock. The wood to metal is good to very good. The function. This is where it all comes down to. I made up some test rounds, brass and bullet, no primers or powder. I was not happy with them and drilled holes in the case sides. This made them obvious as test rounds but also wouldn't chamber. So I just resized them... The brass did as expected but the bullets became loose. I loaded them and cycled the action, All went very well except some of the bullets sunk deep into the cases. Yep, every one of my M92s will cycle empty brass. That covers any bullet types I may come up with. I am pleased. After working over the action and getting rid of the 'lawyer' safety, each of my Rossi rifles cycle very smooth and shoot great, better than I can. Over all evaluation. For pistol caliber 'old school' lever action rifles, what is not to like. I want another one.

The gun was drop shipped from a different company than Buds, but Im ok with that. It made it to my FFL in 3 days from the time of order. It was covered in a cosmoline type grease all over it. It took about 20 mins to clean it up. Went and put 50 rds though it with no problems. I plan on using this rifle later this month for CAS.

Update on my purchase. after shooting 62 rounds the gun fell apart and was returned to factory. The factory has had this gun now for 2 months and just now after repeated phone calls told me they could not repair and would send me a new one and I would have to pay another 40.00 FFL fee, also did not know when they could ship one, They had no clue when I would see one again. Now I will see if Bud's can help me out they have one in stock. I would not buy a gun again from Rossi and only hope I can get my money back.

A lot of bang for the buck, and Bud's got the gun sent out promptly and with no damage or problems. The only drawback I have found in the gun is that it ejects the spent brass at an angle back over, behind my head. When standing on a mat, shooting SASS competition, much of the brass goes beyond the mat, and some may get lost in the grass. There is a way to modify this so that it will not eject the brass as far, Otherwies, the gun has functioned very well and been very accurate. When you have to purchase a number of guns to shoot SASS, Rossi helps you out with producing the lowest priced Model 92 clone that's a quality product.

Rossi R92-57001 shot 62 rounds and screws from reciever stripped and fell out send to factory repair and waiting for it to return 4 weeks no use. Loved the look and feel of the rifle just the qualilty was not there. However the price difference Winchester vs Rossi was a easy choice. Not so sure I would have made the same choice now. Disapointed in the quality.
