This rifle is reliable accurate and soft shooting. The mags don't really drop free so it's not very high speed. This version of the SU-16 is my favorite. It's a good overall handy rifle.

Excellent rifle for camping or hiking, light weight and fun to shoot.
SU16CA model suitable for California, includes 2 10 round magazines.

First of all, don't be misled by Bud's description of "Fixed Stock". The stock is foldable. I bought a pin with pull-ring on ebay to replace the stock pin, to make it easier to fold up. I like the gun. Have had no misfeeds. It looks very cool. It has a threaded barrel so you can add a flash suppressor. I did buy two new magazines from gunmagwarehouse, and I think that they are better than the stock mags, which store nicely in the stock. I put an Eotech red dot sight on the gun, which is really fun. Just point and shoot. If you can see it, and put the dot on it, you'll hit it. Got the sight for around $300 on ebay. The gun will fit in a backpack, or carry bag, or even a Tennis Racquet bag. Loud as heck, so I wear earplugs and earmuffs.

This gun is a blast to shoot even more so when you put some 5.56 ammo through it as the muzzle flash out of it can be enormous but that's not why you're reading this. What about all the gimmicks this gun throws at you, the folding stock that can hold two magazines and the bipod front grip. The SU-16's big selling point is the ability to fold in half for easy storage in something like a backpack and it works. Only issue I ran into was that when I first got it the pin had a hard time going back into the hole. After playing with it for a bit it's worn in a little and aligns nearly every time now. The magazine spot in the stock hold the provided 10 round magazines quite well so I'm glad I got this version of the gun rather than the SU-16C. Second thing people probably see with this gun is the ability for the foregrip to become a bipod. This also works but it's a lot of trouble. Deploying can be frustrating as more often than not you might only get one side to release and not the other. Putting it away can be a bit of an issue as well as what might seem like it snapping back into place may not mean the mechanism that holds the foregrip has actually clipped into where it needs to be. This might also just need be used more to work out fittings. Overall though this gun is a lot of fun to shoot and with just ironsights I was able to hit my target at 100 yards easily with zero practice.

I had researched this item quite a bit before purchasing and this was what I wanted. I was very pleased with the service I received from Buds and the price was the best I had found. I have not had opportunity to take the rifle to the range yet but I am sure I will be pleased with it.

Pretty nice, lightweight sporting rifle. Good for range use, but would not rely on it for self defense. Mine had jamming issues (FTE mainly). Did some work on the bolt body, ejection port, and replaced the charging handle and extractor and spring with a better one. Overall, the rifle is very light and handy. The 2 10rd magazines store in the stock, which is nice. Folds in half for easy storage. Sights are okay, but replaced my front with a KNS front crosshair sight. All AR mags I have fit no problem. Recoil is pretty light in my opinion. Not a bad rifle for camping, hiking or varmint hunting. A good AR alternative where ARs aren't permitted.

Just received the gun. Excellent gun, very tight groups at 50 yards with AE223. 200 rounds fired, a mix of XM855, Remington and American Eagle. All fired and ejected perfectly. Buds service was also excellent in exchanging a gun that arrived damaged (in a sealed box).

Awful gun. Reloading issues, double feeds, has firing pin issues, the spring on the bipod literally fell out on the first use. This gun was literally falling apart when I received it. The magazines don't hold rounds because they are plastic and the rounds just pop out. It's so cheap, it's sad. Now the bolt assembly won't go back into the frame and I'm having way too many issues with this thing. I really regret this purchase I'll NEVER be ordering ANYTHING from KEL-TEC ever again.

My 3rd buy at Buds, All went very well, and quick. The gun is amazingly light! I saw really good reviews of the SU 16 system and after firing a 150 rounds without a failure to fire or any other problems I can say I really enjoy this gun!. If you are looking for a great .223 rilfe and your on a budget then look into this rifle. The only problem is Kel-tec rifles like this go fast so if your interested hurry up and get one!

The order from Buds went very smoothly. 10 days from order to delivery. Buds kept me updated via the e-mail machine every step of the way. Cleaned it up like the owners group forum suggested and soon I'll put a few rounds through it. Looks good, can't wait. Service from Buds is rated A+

A wonderful inexspensive lightweight rifle that holds 10 rounds in a detachable magazine and is legal in California. What else can be said. It blows stuff up when you pull the trigger everytime. Its foldable so it can be transported easily. It has the ability to accept standard 20 or 30 round AR-15 mags. I think every American should have one. My wife loves shooting it. It has decent sights. However its bipod is trash. The Keltec website sells a compact forend conversion that looks cool and will allow an upgraded bipod. Im going to buy another when I save some dough up.

It's no Sig 550, but for the money, its a heck of rifle. Ive put something like 200 round though mine including 40 rounds of Wolf and some other relay cheap ammo. No failures to fed, extract, or to fire. No problems at all in fact. Accuracy was fair, 2 inch groups at 100 yards. The front post site is of resnable quality, but the rear aperature is incredibly cheap. It does the job though and the rifle held zero just fine. Mechanically most parts seemed no more sturdy than needed, of coarse at under five pounds its understandable. Time will tell how well it holds up. The bi-pod is fairly worthless, but the mag storage in the stock and the ability to fold the rifle in half is nice. In short this would be a great pack / trunk gun or light plinker.

Out of the box, we ran 150 rounds of Federal American Eagle .223 without a hitch. One failure to feed due to a magazine being loaded improperly. 10 round mags and 40 round mags worked great. Need to add some optics and get it zeroed properly, but so far, am impressed.

I bought a Kel-Tec SU 16 CA and took it to the range for a day of fun. Being new, I expected to find that the weapon was finicky with different ammunition (bullets, primers and powder combos). The gun worked every time - without fail - and gave me complete satisfaction from the first to the last round. A certain type of berdan primed russian ammo failed to fire but when I switched to CCI and WW boxprimed R-P and assorted military brass, the problems were solved. Also, when I field strppied the gun and got into the firing pin to clean the housing, performance increased remarkably. One would think that an American-made weapon in the $550.00 plus category would be able to handle anything one would cycle through the action, but this high tech piece of equipment has a few idiosyncracies. Perahps, with more use, these will go away never to be re-visited. That is why we re-load our ammo and determine what our guns like to fire with utmost accuracy. Even with this experience, I would recommend the Kel-Tec SU16 CA to a friend for it's looks, servicability, weight, compatability with availabe accesories and overall performance.
