Fast shipping from Buds. It is typical Smith & Wesson. The MIM parts are smooth. The double action is about 9 pounds and the single action is about 4 pounds. I expect the action to smooth out even more. The frame lock is an abomination. The sights are very good. I would like to see a front sight similar to the ruger and colt. The front sight can be changed but it requires drilling the sight. It is something that I do not have the skills to do. It is a good shooter. The rubber grips suit me. They may not be as attractive as wood grips, but I've found them to be functional. I would buy a Smith & Wesson again. It would be my favorite if they would drop the frame lock.

I love my S&W 617 .22 revolver! It's a beautiful gun to behold, I have been wanting one for years and she didn't disappoint. The workmanship is superb, beautiful stainless finish and ten round cylinder a must when plinking or target shooting. It shoots like a dream; the weight makes it easy to hold on target very well balanced. The grips fell really great in your hand, and I love the 6-inch barrel. I highly recommend the 617 If you want a beautiful revolver that shoot's great and with the Smith & Wesson quality!

I've owned a six shot for over 20yrs at which time I also purchased a 617 10 shot with 4 inch barrel. Very fun to shoot, feels like a center fire revolver, so shooting is less expensive and helps train for a larger caliber.

First 2 range trips and the round count is at about 1600 now. This revolver has performed flawlessly. Can't miss with this thing.

I've wanted this pistol since back when I was younger and had other priorities. Finally got around to be buying myself one, and have no regrets. The fit and finish is great. Even with the longer barrel, I think it balances pretty well. The extra sight radius helps with accuracy too. It's got a smooth trigger, which will probably improve over time. Being a .22 I can afford to shoot it all day long, so it gets a lot more use than my centerfire pistols. Yet some of my practice transfers over to my 686+. I've got other S&W revolvers, as well as a few from other companies. This is one of my favorites, and definitely a good value for the price I paid. I'm pretty certain that my son will get to hand it down to his son one day.

I waited for this gun to be in stock for a long time and when Buds got one in I couldn’t resist. The transaction with Buds was flawless and the shipping very fast. I was a little disappointed with the 617 when I received it, the quality was not near as good as some of my other Smiths I’ve purchased. The cylinder locked up so bad the first time I shot it I had to go home and disassemble it to free it up. This happen a couple of more times so i completely took the gun apart cleaned, polished and lubricated all the parts. This made a world of difference, the action is smooth and crisp and I haven’t had any further issues with it. I know this is a S&W issue that should be addressed with their quality control and no fault of Buds Gun Shop.

I was disappointed in this offering from respected Smith And Wesson. I expect better. It was full of maching swarf...no big deal. But it's a "target pistol" and it's simply not accurate. with various ammo and leaning on the bench I could barely hold 2 inches. A Ruger bull barrel will hold 1/2 inch like that. I don't know why it's a 10 rounder...seems unecessary. More nose heavy than I expected. I have shot the 6 inch S and W .357 and did not feel it was nose heavy. 4 in barrel in this would probably be nicer. It's ok for rolling tin cans but don't expect to pull head shots on squirrels and chipmunks. I give it a 3 stars because of the accuracy issue

Have fired a few thousand rounds with this gun and it is my favorite gun of all I own. Mine is equipped with a Nikon scope and is great shooting at 25 yards. I would recommend this gun to anyone who is interested in a high quality .22 revolver.

Great looking revolver. A bit heavy for a 22LR. I was surprised how quickly powder filled the chambers, making it very hard to reload. I guess I need cleaner burning ammo!

This gun fired all the .22 ammo I loaded into it with only a few misfires. I shot over 100 rounds of Browning, Remington, CCI, and Federal ammo each. The hammer has a rough surface where the thumb makes contact as you cock the gun that will leave a raw blister and after shooting around 100 rounds the gun starts to feel heavy. The four inch barrel might have been a better choice. The kick back is barely noticeable due to the mass of the gun absorbing what kick back there is for a .22. On the rounds that misfired, whenever I made a second attempt to fire the round it worked correctly and the bullet left the muzzle like all the other rounds.
