I was pleasantly surprised with this Ruger. My experience with them in the past has been up and down. They all have been great guns but only after addressing issues that shouldn’t have left the factory. Burrs in the action and chambers, canted sights etc. Not to mention how gritty and dirty they were inside. This gun has none of that going on. Absolutely the cleanest, smoothest action I have ever felt on an out of the box Ruger! First range trip yielded good accuracy with Remington factory loads. I am very pleased with the level of fit and finish on this revolver. I have always been a Ruger fan but this one is the best one out of the box yet!

A few months ago i purchased a ruger redhawk in 45 long colt 4 inch model. Buds shipping and service is top notch as always! The ruger on the other hand was not great. Out of the box after 15 rounds I got the dreaded action lock up in DA and the gun would not fire or cycle. It would continue this issue every time I fired a few rounds. Cylinder gap was way to tight (under .002), internals were not finished well and ruff, ejector rod stuck and needed cleaning up just to operate. After 12 hours of work, spring kit, stoning, facing work and 6 range trips it shoots well. I do not recommend this to anyone who doesnt have gunsmith experience. Buy a smith and wesson period.

I am really impressed with this weapon. You really need to handload it to get the most out of it, and that is why I bought it. I have a 400 grain mold that is calling to me. The grips are very comfortable, if you can call a 1 oz slug out of a revolver that. The sight blade is held with a detent so you can swap for Bowen sights (taller for heavy bullets). And it has the smoothest DA trigger I have ever felt. I was really surprised. My M27 Smith from the 1950s is a close second. The SA trigger is heavy, though. Smith and Wessons are better in single action. However, for what I want, this revolver was worth every penny. 5 stars.

Ideal carry for Camping in case of Bears! Larger frame difficult for smaller hands. Nice gun.

Extremely happy with this revolver. I was disappointed to learn that the manufacturer changed the design and went with a round butt for the newer version of this revolver. I search high and low to find this square butt older version with its incredibly strong frame, triple lock-up points and thick walled long cylinder. I am able to shoot very heavy and high power rounds from this revolver. This is my "ballistic bear defense spray" for when I find myself in an area known for highly aggressive coastal grizzly bears in Alaska as well as a darn fine porcine popper in the swamps of south Georgia.

I purchased a new Redhawk .45 Colt from Buds. When I got it, the gun looked great on the outside, but against the face where the firing pin is, the metal looked like pot metal; it wasn't looking like solid stainless steel. Well OK, it's no Smith or Colt. I dry fired the gun a few times; the trigger was heavy, which meant to me, a trigger job was in order. OK. Here's the amazing part: The gun didn't work with live ammo! Truly. I took the gun to the range, loaded this brand new Ruger with Blazer ammo, and tried the double action. The cylinder wouldn't rotate, it felt locked up. I tried cocking the hammer in single action - no go, cylinder locked up. After inspecting the ammo, it seemed like the metal at the rim of the cases was thicker than normal. So I unloaded the gun and reloaded with new Federal .45 Colt ammo, and repeated the test. Same result: gun wouldn't fire; cylinder wouldn't rotate. So I took the gun to a gunsmith who happened to own the same model gun and same caliber. The gunsmith called me after inspecting the gun and said it was a factory defect. Send the gun back. I'm waiting to see what Ruger says. I bought a new Smith & Wesson 629. Superb quality with the Smith, no replacement needed, and a joy to shoot and own. I'll stick with Smith, Colt, Walther, Sig, Glock, Springfield Armory, and guns of this ilk. Bill T

Very well engineered revolver. I found the rubber grips abrasive and uncomfortable after shooting a few rounds. I filled the grips smooth where they engaged my hands. They are now much better. I was not given many choices when looking for a heavy frame single/double action revolver that will handle the 45 P heavier loads. I wanted a 6 inch barrel but don't think it would make much difference over the 4" barrel on recoil given the kick of those 45 P loads. I'm glad I chose the 4" model. It is just right for target and defense shooting. My rear sight is slightly cocked to the left side. The windage adjustment was set at the correct position so I left the rear sight alone. It shoots straight and I'll live with the sight being slightly angled. Overall I'm very pleased with this pistol.

As usual, Bud's did a fantastic job in quickly shipping the gun I ordered at an excellent price. After shooting the pistol, I am very pleased. I had heard that the Ruger Redhawk had a "less than acceptable" trigger pull due to the design using only one spring for both the hammer and trigger. On my gun, at least, this is not correct. Double action is smooth and easily controllable, single action is crisp and, although a little heavier than I would prefer in a revolver, easily mastered. It's a keeper. Thanks again, Bud's, for making this a great experience. Jim

Love this 45 colt revolver. If you like light weight guns do not buy this one. Its pretty heavy but shoots great. Grips make it easy to handle. Sights are right on but Ruger should have put a "white" insert on the front sight instead of the red. If you want to change sights, it will have to go to a gun smith as the sight is pinned. Extremely hard to find your target with the red. Its easy to clean. Only way you could carry this as a concealed is to get a shoulder holster.

Great gun. I'm getting 2 to 2 /12" groups @ 25 yards with 230-300 grain handloads - an ongoing project. On a 12" x 18" silhouette everything in the A zone @ 25 yds and everything in the chest @ 50 yds, You may do better with a different load or shooter. I did not like the pebbilized rubber grips under heavy recoil and recommend smooth wood Hogue grips or similar. Good trigger pull out of box but of course I polished the internals and tried Wolff springs. 12 and 13# produced 3% fail to fire, 14# works 100% so far. Rear sight pin slides out under repeated recoil, Locktite an immediate fix. Of course .45 caliber much more goodness than .44 mag. Great build and accuracy, a recommend.

Five years later this Redhawk still shoots accurate with nothing but heavy handloads. No sign of getting loose. Fine firearm. Nice crisp trigger and built like a tank. Very happy with this purchase and very thankful for Buds service.

Bud's service was spot on. The revolver shipped quickly and the price was very competitive. The Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt is just a dream to shoot. It handles 200 grain cowboy loads and 260 Grizzly loads without a hitch. Accuracy is fantastic with both loads. If your looking stout handgun, look no further, the Redhawk in 45 Colt is it.

This RedHawk will handle just about any load.... From mild(200gr) to wild(325gr) and anything in between. Truly one of my favorite revolvers.

Picked-up the Redhawk a month ago at the Lexington store. Fast and friendly service. The revolver is made of excellent quality, good shooter, and built like a tank. A Simple Rugged holster makes this revolver an easy carry. Recoil is similar to a 38 special using wWinchester 225 silvertips. Glad I only took two boxes of ammo to shoot. 45 ammo is expensive, therefore, its best if you roll your own from mild (225 gr) to wild (335 gr). or anywhere in between.
