Nice rifle for sure, wish it had higher capacity mags, but reliable as any. Recommend all day. Probably the best quality stock in this price range also. 1/2 inch groups at 50 consistently with cheap ammo.

After going back and forth on my choice for a plinker/small game rifle after years of having a Marlin 60 and considering the 10-22 I chose this. I was very pleased with the balance, heft (despite it being light) and ability to attach my scope with no issues. Out of the box the gun was in good shape and shipped quickly to a terrific FFL (mine "retired") via Buds. I'm cleaning her up a little and heading out to see how things go but expect all to be well. I bought some additional mags (not the 30 round ones, standard) and will edit after I've shot a few hundo. But the usual good experience buying, getting and picking up my gun from Buds.

Not Happy. First impressions, out of the box, the finish looked slightly more 'polished' than the budget Ruger 10/22 that I recently bought. Everything looked pretty good for a budget Remington. However, when I went to mount my optic on the Picatinny rail, I found that the rail was loose. Two of the screws on the top of the receiver are either stripped or tapped slightly oversize and the screws will not tighten down.

If you are looking for a value priced tack driver then this is it. I put 100 flawless rounds through it sighting in my Nikon Prostaff Rimfire 3x9x40. Absolutely love it. The gun shoots better than I can. For the price you just can't beat it. Don't be afraid to make this purchase!

Rifle looked ok out of the box, albeit the stock fit well but has seem lines from the mold. The fore end will flex if you use a firm grip on it. Bought and mounted a rimfire scope , took several brands of ammo and rifle to the range, put rifle on safe and loaded and inserted magazine took aim at target and tried to move crossbolt safety off to no avail. Trigger was locked up and wouldn't move. Disassembled per owners manual and found one of trigger link pins had fell out of link. Reinstalled , reassembled and had same thing happen again. This process is very tedious and takes a long time to complete. This trigger group is made very cheaply with a lot of plastic parts. Dont know gun will shoot or not, waiting for Remington to respond to email. I say pass on this one, if you need to make upgrades to a value firearm from the gate it's no value. Just buy a better firearm to begin with and enjoy, Buds service is good, just wished I had made a better choice in rifle.

This is my first purchase from Bud's. And I am more than pleased with the product and service. The shipping was faster than the email updates, I got the notice that the item had been shipped 10 hours after i picked up the rifle from my local dealer.I have mounted a generic micro red dot (under $20 from amazon, I have been using these on my 22 lr guns for 2 yrs, no issues) sight, as expected fit was perfect I ordered the gun early on 23 Jun and the firearm was ready to be picked up around noon on 25 Jun, Updates to fo;;ow after I get to the range.

I purchased this nice little Remington 597 HB after reading pretty much every single review out there, including all the YouTube videos. This heavy barrel version of Remington 597 has definitely lived up to its reputation, super accurate, perfect balance, 100% reliable after 500 rounds of cheap American Eagle 22LR and 250 rounds of premium CCI. My friends were marveling at how easy and accurate this little tack-driver was on the range, and they all wanted one afterward. The stock indeed leaves something for desired, but for a mere $198 on Buds, I couldn't hold a grudge against it. The stock really reminds me of a rubberized Hogue stock, but it's made of hard plastic with a fairly slippery texture to it. No worry, I applied some grip tape on the grip and fore-end. I also drilled two holes on the stock for two sling studs. The trigger of this 597 is somewhat different from all the other 597 I have handled. It's not bad at all! very crisp out of the box, albeit a little heavy. So I changed it out to a TandemKross spring kit, and have lessened the trigger pull down to a good 5lb. I could have installed the Volquartsen hammer for a hefty $45 to further reduce the trigger pull down to 2.5 lb, but why take away the fun of shooting? Light trigger simply makes shooting this gun way too easy. For the size and balance of this HB 597, I decided to go for a 1-4x24 Burris MTAC scope, which I think is perfect for its application, shooting targets within 100 yards. Using decent ammo this HB 597 could easily maintain sub-MOA accuracy in a light-wind/windless situation. The only drawback is that this rifle only comes with one 10-round rotary magazine, I wish it comes with at least two. This is my 11th purchase from Buds, perfect as always, fast shipping, great customer service, hassle-free checkout, safe money transfer. I really wish I could support my local gun shops, but Buds' price AND customer service have always been hard to beat. All hail to Buds!

Not a bad rifle. For a heavy barrel rifle, this thing is light. You'd have no problem carrying it through the woods. Only thing that holds back from 5 stars is the fact that the stock (which is a little on the light duty side) does not have sling stud holes. It does have a mark on the fore-end where one should go. Slows down the bipod process. Other than that, lets just say you couldn't get a HB Ruger for this price. Solid, reliable shooter just waiting for you and a scope.

Processing took a little longer than I expected, but it came. A week later I had my scope on and zeroed in four shots. The gun preformed flawless. Only real issue I have was the paint was chipped off of the magazine release.

I have had this gun for about 6 months and have no complaints. No failures whatsoever. I have shot everything from subsonic to hyper-velocity. I have a cheap 3-9x40 scope and get groups smaller than a dime at 25 yards. The fit and finish are excellent, I love the heavy barrel and it really helps in the wind. The clip needs a good breaking in to fit 10 and I only keep 8 in it usually. That is my only complaint. All and all way better than a $250 10/22 for you guys on a budget.

Picked up my rifle today. It looks awesome.*Exactly what I wanted at a good price * I was pretty disappointed with the fact that it only comes with one mag.- also it was dirty and had the butt pad removed.- the action was a bit sticky at first but after a good cleaning it has gotten very smooth. Overall happy with my new toy in my opinion as far as the comparison between this and the 10/22... If u want a great plinkr at a great price right from factory this is it. If u want a crap load of mods get a 10/22.

I am satisfied with the service. My gun took a couple of weeks to arrive but this was due to it being Christmas and there were a lot of orders to be filled. I did get the rifle I wanted and this rifle was hard to find exactly like I wanted. So thanks to Buds Gun shop.

This is a great little rifle and a lot of fun to shoot! I did have some trouble with the magazine at first but just needed to break them in. Now they feed great, I just wish there were some reliable 30rd mags available. I purchased a nice walnut stock to replace the plastic one and added a Redfield 3-9x42 scope. I also updated the extractor, hammer and added a bipod from volquartsen. It was a tack driver out of the box but now you can nibble away the bullseye from a target at 100yds while eating a hamburger. And as always, Buds delivered quickly. I've had mine for a few months now and it doesn't spend much time in the closet. The only thing left I would like to do to it is come up with some type of over travel adjustment for the trigger.

1st thing. I did not expect anything great out of this rifle, with all the bad info about the 30 round mags-ftf-fte etc. So I ordered nov 3 rd and picked it up at my FFL 8 business days later . In that time I ordered a replacement Volquartsen custom Target Hammer and Volguartsen Extractor. Also ordered Tandemross Trigger Spring Kit while I waited for my new 597 to arrive . I also got 4 more 10 round mags and got 9 in each mag and let it sit for the week. So it came in and I did all this stuff above and also polished the guide rods and bottom of the bolt. Used 1500 grit sand paper to do this. Put a scope on it also. This is a very easy little rifle to work on. So today 11-22-13 I went to the range and was able to put the 10th round in each mag, was still a lot of pressure with the mag spring, and I did help the bolt forward to load the first round in 2 of the 5 mags . But that's it.I'll just leave the mags full for a week or 2 and that will fix that. I shot 200 Winchester super x 40 grain round nose copper plated 100 of CCI STANDARD LEAD ROUND NOSE 40 grain and 150 of FEDERAL PREMIUM HV MATCH 40 grain solid lead nose. That's 450 without one failure of any kind except what I mentioned above ,breaking in the mags. With all I did it's still about $60 cheaper than the Ruger 10/22 , that I also Owen . As of right now I like my new Remington 597 better. I got a heavy barrel , the od green stock I wanted, but I must say all rifles should come with iron sights and sling swivel studs . THIS I ONE REAL FINE TACK DRIVER NOW. Like I said before I did all the upgrades I wanted and it is about $60 cheaper than the stock ruger . I'm very happy . But I don't know how it would have shot before I did the upgrades, I bet pretty good. I spent about $335 on my 10/22 then another $200 on a Heavy Barrel and it goes on from there, The Remmy 597 is a great. I'm not saying it's better than a 10/22 for all U Ruger fans,I'm one also .Im saying I like it better right now , time will tell but I pretty sure .Hope this helps

Picked mine up from the dealer just a couple days ago and the fit and finish is very good. As the picture shows there are no iron sights that come on the rifle. This rifle with the short heavy barrel just feels right in your hands and points very easily and quickly. I am undecided in the long term whether I am going to put a scope on it as it definately provides the accuracy that a good scope would take advantage of. but it just handles so nice with a red dot on it. i mounted my Sparc red dot on it and took it to the range today and left a happy camper. Sub 2" groups at 50 yds with no malfunctions or magazine issues out of about 500 rds. Best accuracy was obtained with federal Auto match. it also ran flawlessly with Federal bulk and Remington Goldens but the groups opened up a little bit but not too bad. Can't wait to try some CCI mini mags if they ever become available, lol and see what it can do. At the time I was looking at a Savage 64, Ruger 10/22 and this one and I am glad I went with the Remington. Definately an excellent rifle that anyone would be happy with. Special thanks to Buds for another excellent transaction and fast shipping.

Got two... Making one an evil black gun and the other a tack driver. Think this gun is well worth the money.
