Hi Point 8 + 1 Round 9MM Compact w/Black Finish & Hard Case [C9-HC]
$179.00

Date Added: Sunday 03 October, 2010
This gun comes with case, trigger lock, and one magazine. I bought two extra magazines. So far I've run through about 300 rounds of Winchester and Federal full metal jacket with no major issues. The gun didn't like to feed partially-jacketed Golden Sabre ammo (it would get stuck on the ramp -- and no, it wasn't due to limp wrist). With FMJ ammo, I'm able to punch a silver dollar sized hole with all 8 rounds at about 10 yards with no problems. This gun has predicable manners and reasonably accurate. The instructions do not recommend taking the gun apart for cleaning. The soldier part of me is screaming "clean it!". You will need a 1/8" punch to remove the breakdown pin -- it really wasn't that bad after I did it once. After three trips to the range and three good cleanings, the gun is starting to "loosen up" a little. My one complaint is the hand grips are screwed on, and they don't lay flat against the polymer frame. My wife's hand got pinched in the tiny gap when firing it the other day. I might send it back to Hi Point as this is a correctable quality issue. Overall, this gun has met my expectations for the price. It is inexpensive, but I wouldn't call it cheap. It will be interesting to see if it will hold up when it has 2,000 rounds through it. If you are looking for a way to get reintroduced to shooting, I feel this weapon is a good choice. I'm hoping Hi Point will make the tweaks needed to improve the gun's ability to feed hollow point ammo; if they did, there would be no reason this gun couldn't serve as a primary home defense weapon for the budget-minded.
