Nice gun. It is pretty reliable and cheap to shoot. It is a pain to field strip though.

A blast to shoot! I bought this pistol to provide a cheap substitute for practice with my M1911 and other service-type pistols. At the price I paid, it was a good bit cheaper than a 22 conversion kit. However, it is only OK as a trainer pistol for a couple of reasons: 1. The magazines are not "drop free". Even if they were, the magazine well is not parallel to the grip and the design of the mags / well do not facilitate quick reloading. Quick reloads with a 1911 are far easier than with this Ruger. 2. The slide release must be depressed to release the slide on a full mag; one can't "slingshot" this pistol. Naturally, the pistol does not have quite the heft and certainly does not have the recoil of a 1911, though I expected that. It is also a total pain to strip and reassemble for cleaning. I would also strongly recommend a cheap magazine loading "tool" to save wear 'n' tear on thumbs. That aside... It's an absolute blast to shoot! It points well, the checkering on the grip panels, front- and backstraps make for a secure feel in the hand, and right out of the box it was chewing up Federal .22LR Classic copper plated hollowpoints as fast as I could pull the trigger. No jams or failures of any kind. Shoots right to point of aim. After the first hundred rounds or so, I was wishing I had magazines that could hold more than ten rounds!
