Beretta PX4 Storm Type F 9mm 17 round
[JXF9F21]
$524.00
by Jared T Date Added: Thursday 17 November, 2011
This was my first handgun purchase. I am more experienced with shotguns and small caliber rifles than handguns so please note this when reading my review. I have shot 100+ rounds through this gun so far and have not had any problems. I like this gun a lot but there are a few things I would like to comment on.

The first thing I noticed is the gun has to be loaded fast with a quick release of the slide. If you try to load a round into the chamber slowly and quietly this gun will jam. My previous handgun experience is with a well used .380 that could be chambered both fast and slow. My inquiry into Beretta technical support was answered with this gun has to be loaded quickly. Perhaps when this gun has had a few thousand rounds put through it will be able to load slowly.

The second thing I noticed was this gun came with a 17 round clip but cannot be fully inserted into the gun with the slide closed fully loaded. With my previous handgun experience I am used to filling up the clip to the maximum capacity and then insert the clip into the gun with the slide closed. Once the clip is inserted then I pull the slide back to chamber a round. When I put this clip in with the slide closed with all 17 bullets loaded into the clip, the clip will not seat to the bottom of the pistol grip. To take advantage of the max capacity of the clip the slide has to be locked open when loading or reloading. I think the 17+1 capacity is misleading unless I am doing something wrong. I am used to loading one round in the chamber then taking the clip out and adding another bullet to get the full capacity of the gun. I think this should be changed to 16+1. Perhaps with more experience or if someone would provide feedback to this review I would better understand this issue.

Now for the positives. I have placed the smallest handgirp on this gun and it is comfortable for both myself and my wife to handle. She has yet to shoot it but she says the gun does not feel too big for her hands and for myself it is comfortable to shoot. Changing the grips can be a little challenging but it is a great option to have.
