Ruger P95 9mm Stainless, w Rail 15 round
[3014]
$374.00
by Chris B Date Added: Tuesday 18 September, 2012
Cheap (cost wise, not build wise), reliable, and attractive. I picked this up to have as a in home protection piece in the (very) unlikely event that we'd ever need it. I also wanted something fairly inexpensive to maintain and fire for trips to the range a few times a month. We also wanted to make sure this was a firearm that my wife could easily load, shoot, and be accurate with (it's really in the house more for her "feeling safe" when I'm not at home than anything).

Bottom line, after the first trip to the range with her to practice firing and loading it (she'd not fired a pistol in likely 10 years), she mentioned the same evening how much more at ease she felt and wouldn't be as apprehensive when I was way for the evening. Keeping in mind that we live in an area that I could likely put our best china out on the front lawn and it would be safe, its still good to have that peace of mind that you at least have something to protect yourself with should it be needed. Her feeling good about it ... was all I needed to be happy with the purchase.

My wife has no issues firing or loading this weapon (she is a small woman) and is actually quite accurate with it.

For my part ... I love the thing. It handles like a dream. I've put about 1500 rounds through it without a single issue (using Winchester FMJ 115 grain target - the inexpensive white box stuff). Like any handgun it has its own unique handling that takes a few rounds to get used to, after that it is extremely consistent. The one thing I would HIGHLY SUGGEST is to add your choice of a grip enhancer. The grip of the pistol is not "bad" really, but its a bit narrow my hands (average size) and also a bit more slick than I'd like. A small grip enhancer made the gun far more comfortable to fire for long periods of time. Both my wife (with her small hands) and myself find it a lot more comfortable with the added girth of the grip (so spend the 20$ and just order one with the gun).

On a size note, I'm not sure this would be the weapon I would carry for concealment, its substantial, however you could do so (its not so large that you couldn't do so in winter/fall, though might be hard to hide under light summer clothing). The one upside to the guns heft is that it feels substantial. Unlike a lot of 9mm in this price range, I'm pretty sure I could very effectively defend myself with this weapon without firing it at all (aka, it'd make a great club).
