Savage 28700 MKIIFV 22LR AT HB

This is supposed to be one of the most accurate guns for the money, but I haven't been able to experience it yet. I received the rifle and cleaned it up. The dimples where the serial number is stamped in has rust in it that I still haven't been able to get out. I took it out with several boxes of ammo to start weeding out the good from the bad. I bought this for 100 yard prone shooting, so accuracy is what I was looking for. None of the ammo seemed to group well. After careful inspection, I found that the crown was not cut properly and had a 45 degree bevel cut about 1/3 of the way around it. UPS is picking it up tomorrow to take back to Savage for repair. As for the rest of the gun, the synthetic stock is pretty sad. About what I expected, but still sad. It felt as if I were shooting a youth model.

On the bright side, customer service was very accommodating with getting this taken care of for me. My Boyd's RVT stock will be in Thursday...just after UPS picks up the gun. Hopefully, Savage will turn the repair quickly and I will be able to try it out properly. I'm expecting an excellent gun when it is returned and may try to update the review afterwards. Until then, I am a new Savage owner who is out of a gun.

If you are considering getting one with the intent to add a Boyd's stock later, I would encourage you to consider the BV models. After all is said and done, you will have spent about the same amount of money for the same basic gun.
