I have been a S&W fan for decades. This is the first new Smith I have bought in 20 years so it was an opportunity to compare older and new guns. For the most part, I am happy with the fit and finish of the new gun. The barrel was a little off center, but the rear sight moved over enough to take care of that. Action is good, does load up in double action mode when moving the action slowly, single action is crisp and unpredictible. Some complain about the finish. Smith has to make a gun at a price that will sell. I would rather they put their efforts inside the gun rather than pay a buffer. Older Smiths do have better finish, but with a stainless gun, the owner can polish to his hearts content.( Blue Magic) For anyone thinking of a revolver for home defense, this is the gun to buy. I would give S&W a B+ overall. Very handsome gun.Lots of great aftermarket grips available. Altamont and Ahrends make beautiful products. Check out the Smith and Wesson forum, tons of info there. S&W also has a very good warranty
