Smith & Wesson 686 .357 Mag 4", 6 round
[164222]
$692.00
by Kevin B Date Added: Thursday 04 November, 2010
This is an excellent gun! The single action trigger pull is light and short, but predictable. Double action is smooth as is typical with a S&W. I shoot both 38 special and 357 magnums out of this, and to tell the truth, it is difficult to feel a noticeable difference in recoil; both have a light to moderate kick. This was my hope as I plan to teach my daughters how to shoot and having a light kick is pretty important to start them off with a positive impression of shooting.

I put some Semichrome polish on it, and it shines brightly. In short, this is just an excellent firearm. I've shot hot 357 mag reloads out of this and the brass extracted easily without sticking. Very nice.

I only wish S&W would not use metal injection molding (MIM) for their triggers, hammers, sears, etc. In as much as this does not affect the quality of a new firearm, it does give me concern about reliability when my gun is 10 years old and has fired 1000's of rounds. This is less of a complaint and more of an observation. Ruger does not use MIM for the most part; if they would duplicate the S&W trigger pull, they would have all my business.

I don't believe one can go wrong with a S&W; I have several and they are usually the first stop in my shopping process. As always, Buds did an excellent job on delivery.
