Smith & Wesson 617 .22 LR 6", 10 round
[160578]
$699.00
by David G Date Added: Sunday 28 August, 2011
Just came back from the range and after putting 180 rds through the gun, it seems to work well. It feels very smooth and high quality. The only problem I had was after the first 10 rds, the shells were sticking in the chambers. First it just took some gentle persuasion to get them out but then after about 140 rds. I couldn't even move the ejector rod. After tapping hard on it about ten times with my hand, it finally broke free. I shot 20-30 rounds more after that and they were still sticking a bit but not to the point that the ejector rod would not move. So I figure one of the shells over swelled after firing. But it still seems to me that the cylinders may have needed a bit more reaming at the factory. For that reason, I can only give the gun 4 stars. BTW I did pre-clean the gun before shooting it. I have a 686 as well and I've never had this issue with that gun. I also want to say that I received a round butt grip, not a square butt conversion grip like shown in the picture and that was a bit of a surprise. So make sure you check to see what you're gonna get when ordering from Bud's as they do not do a great job at describing the gun on the product page.
