I own this gun and am very pleased with it. If you want a really short rifle then this is your gun. Some people are scared-away by the specs, but I can assure you that this revolver is very user-friendly. It is definitely not for wussies, as I saw a youtube video of one guy firing his S&W 500 only twice and declaring that was about all a person could handle. I guess so... if you're a sissy. Seriously though, let me tell your hand what to expect when you shoot this king of the handguns - it feels exactly like getting punched in the hand. Big whoop. Just punch yourself in the hand and if it bothers you then don't buy this gun. The muzzle rise is very acceptable and quite cool. The gun will push back first, then it will rise as the recoil tries to dissapate. Hearing protection is absolutely required because it's as loud as a high-powered rifle. Some say this gun is not practical or fun to shoot. That is because they are not using it for what it was designed to do. The S&W 500 is a 100% serious hunting gun and is something designed to be taken to the jungles of Africa where there is a strong possibility that at any moment something big and angry might start running as fast as it can towards you and you only have five seconds to stop it. That is what makes it so awesome. That is what will immortalize it in gun history as a wolf among sheep, as a titan among giants, and as something truly unique. This gun is not meant for plinking or any casual usage, and I think any negative comments about this gun are from people who bought this gun based on the reputation and bragging rights it carries, rather than a genuine need. Well, I suppose nobody really needs a .50 caliber revolver. If you do then you need to move as where you live is way too dangerous! As for ammo I recommend ballisticsupply dot net for excellent ammo and unbeatable prices.
