Springfield 45ACP 4" Black Package
[XD9611HCSP06]
$518.00
by Greg L Date Added: Saturday 21 March, 2009
I love the feel of this firearm. Despite the fixed backstrap (as opposed to the XD-M model) it just seemed to fit right out of the box. I picked-up the equivalent Glock, but there was no contest. Firing rounds is relatively effortless. Fit and finish is great. Field stripping is straightforward and relatively easy.

This full size model is just a bit oversized for CC. I'll carry it in Winter with a jacket on, but it has nowhere to hide in the Summer. I'll look for a sub-compact .40 to try to fill my days in shorts.

I do though, have a few complaints. The magazine release is in a terrible place for me. I cannot drop and reload with any ease. The weapon needs to be cocked at a weird, non-firing angle to get to the button. It is ambidexterous, and I have tried the left side with my thumb and the right side with my index finger with the same result. I have to fight the gun to drop the magazine. The release button is quite stiff too. I tried a dab of lubricant thinking it might just be new. That didn't help. If the 13 + 1 rounds isn't enough to do the job, I'm in some trouble. Kinda defeats the purpose of the included magazine holder. I'm hoping it will loosen over time.

Seond complaint is the takedown lever. Mine is an absolute bear to engage. You have to have fingertips of steel to push it up to take the slide off. Obviously a non-combat situation, but a minor issue nonetheless.

Last one: the grip. Although the ergonomics fits me very well, I can't shoot in warm/humid weather for very long. They polymer stock does not like persperation very much. The firearm will flop around quite a bit after a few dozen rounds at the range. I have to keep a towel handy or constantly wipe my hand on my jeans to keep dry.

All in all, a very nice piece. Subtle personal preference issues is all. Its fired every round flawlessly to-date. I will purchase another Springfield.
