Owning so many 1911s over many decades,I\'ve lost track of the number owned. Given that, I didn\'t expect to be surprised by much. Boy was I wrong about that. Have always been a fan of the SAI line of 1911s and had several full custom pistols built by SACS with fantastic results. Only had to use the near legendary CS one time, but it did not disappoint.

This mil-spec on review is a tightly fitted firearm. Very good and smooth frame / slide fit. Barrel locks up tight with a good fit of the hood and it does , in fact, touch the breech face on lock up. Barrel bushing tight but just loose enough to remove with my fingers. I have good hand strength so may not be the same for all. All internals fit well and function is good. Extracter tensioned properly and ejector tuned so as to place spent casings in a nice pile.

So far no surprises, but now for the MSH. After all these years of forgeting to install the take-down thing in the msh, I could not find it in the box. I looked and looked, not there. After I quickly fabricated one, much to my surprise, it seems SAI has eliminated the ils on the MSH. Good for them always disliked that feature. I do not need to lock the function of my weapons. I have a good gun safe.

It has fired only 200 rounds at the range, but all flawlessly. The process for me has begun. I hjad on hand many parts to fit to this mil-spec. After doing some work for my LGS, I was rewarded with as new Ed Brown tool steel hammer, sear and disconnect. 10-8 NM rear sight, S&A beavertail installed, grieder trigger, wilson bulletproof thumb safety, 10-8 slidestop and it is now a 1911 I can use. None of what I did is necessary, I had all but the beavertail grip safety on hand, but it does make a nice 1911 a nearly perfect gov\'t model. The finishing touch will some front strap checkering, a dovetail front sight and the VIS releived for the lower barrel lugs to not crash in to, a \"bowtie\" cut to many.

So for around $1K, I will have a 1911 to rival models costing much more. Only because I can perform the work myself is this possible. My advice is if you need all this on your 1911, buy the gun with it already modded, maybe the TRP, much cheaper than sending it away. The gun is fine as it was recieved, I just can\'t leave well enough alone.

Thats all I\'ve got. Thanks to Buds for a good price and fast shipping
