Acquired the weapon to carry on Alaskan fishing expeditions. Bud’s outdid themselves in getting the revolver to my FFL in mint condition, or rather in Ruger condition. Fit is very good with cylinder to barrel gap at 3 thousands. Trigger assembly fit isn’t S&W but neither did I pay a S&W price. Finish is typical Ruger, found metal shavings in trigger assembly and a few metal slivers, sharp edges and rough spots, left by machining, here and there. Nothing that a dental pick and some judicious Dremel work couldn’t correct. The Hogue grips are quite impressive, as felt recoil is less than that of my 7.5 inch heavy SA revolver with oversize Packmayr grips. I Was pleasantly surprised at the accuracy, revolver shots as good as, or better than, my Colt Commander LW, even with my hottest bear defense loads. After toting around 7.5 and 9.0 inch revolvers, the Alaskan is a pleasure to carry, well worth the loss of a few hundred fps for the short barrel. It’s a weapon that you won’t leave back at the camp because it’s too cumbersome to carry.
