Rock Island Armory Officers 1911 45acp
[51416]
$432.00
by John K Date Added: Monday 07 May, 2012
Service from Bud's was great. Good price and fast ship. On my first trip to the range, I ran three different 230 gr ball loads through it - Remington UMC, Federal and American Eagle (another Federal product). Using 3 different rounds and 3 mags (the Act Mag that came with it and two more 7 rd Act Mags I bought from advancedtactical.com), the Rock performed flawlessly. The gun is well balanced and heavy enough to manage the .45 recoil even with a short barrel. I replaced the stock wooden grips with Hogue rubber grips, which is a major improvement. The beavertail is more than adequate to prevent getting railroaded. I centerpunched my very first shot with it at about ten yards, and then shot nice groups with it. My only quibble is the black on black sights. They are intuitive and the point of impact is dead on, but it takes a second or two to acquire the sight picture if you're really trying for bullseye accuracy. For that matter, it is no different than my Colt Govt Model anniversary edition, which retains the same black on black sights of the original. All in all, I am quite pleased with it, especially since the pistol, FFL transfer fee, Hogue grips and two extra Act Mags all cost about $500.
