I recieved my new toy the other day, in OVERALL GOOD condition. When I purchased it, the ad stated "excellent" and though it is a numbers matching rifle it is not in that "excellent" cateogry. I have purchased another mosin from buds before in very good condition and I suppose thats why I had such high expectations for this one. Its a 1943 "izzy" numbers matching, COUNTERBORED with sharp rifling and dark grooves - I understand this was the way they re arsenaled them years ago BUT this is not exactly what I would say constitutes excellent. It does have a great trigger (smooth for a war time gun), is in a beautifl dark red hard wood finnish or german stock (cant see the cartouche clearly - and no DDR / SA stamps on receiver or barrel), and again is numbers matching. The bolt after a thorough cleaning has some pitting on the cocking piece (weird....), the firing pin spring was shortened by someone somewhere (kinda cool - light trigger pull), and the finish which i think is a nickel plating of some sort is wearing off. Also there was some cosmoline to get off and VERY MINOR rust that came off easily with some CLP and some 0000 steel wool. All in all, it is a "GOOD" condiition gun and I should have insepcted it a little more thoroughly prior to taking the FFL transfer so I could use Buds Return / Exchange policy. Buds transaction and shipping was great BUT the biggie to me was that the gun showed up at my FFL in "BUBBLE WRAP". Not even a box for shipping! That was kinda lame guys. Stock has dents / dings / scratches were the gun had been set down or mishandled. After the overall let downs here and there, I feel that this is an over rated (grade in category wise) rifle that I did over pay for all things considered. Hope this thing shoots well!
