Gun cycles 2 3/4" just fine but hangs open with 3 1/2" shells. I bought this gun specifically for waterfowl hunting intending to shoot 3 1/2" shells. Highly disappointed.

I was in need of a semi auto shotgun for hunting, home defense, and just putting rounds down range. I carried the Benelli M1014 in the Marine Corps and loved the operating system. I did not have benelli money and have a buddy that worked at Benelli recently and said I wouldn't go wrong with a M3500 as a great budget shotgun. Boy oh boy was he right! Got it today and probably put 50 rounds down range right out of the box and it brought back immediate memories of my trusty M1014! The gun didn't care much for the light target loads out of the box (they supply counterweights for these if you want) but it sure loves my 00BuckShot. I see many years of fun and love out of this bad boy and the experience of ease with Buds is the icing on the cake. Buds you've earned another customer and as for the Stoeger I give it an A .

The Stoeger M3500 is a tried and true working gun. Mine has seen mud, rain, dust, drops, bumps and long periods without cleaning, all the while keeping its characteristic reliability and accuracy. My initial break-in of the gun consisted of 200 rounds of Fiocchi Golden Goose 3 1/2" Magnum, with cleaning after firing each magazine. Since then, this gun has not been babied. I highly recommend this as the very best, do-it-all budget shotgun! Pro's: This shotgun comes loaded with features: The accessory pack it fantastic! This shotgun will cycle dove and target loads reliably after break-in period. One gun for every kind of shotgunning game is very nice. I never feel underpowered with geese, but I can load other shells on the way back to the truck in case I run across smaller game such as dove or rabbits. Durable stock. Tight fitting construction: Initially this may seem like a downside, but once your shotgun is broken-in, it will have a smoothness akin to more expensive shotguns. Con's: Finish is easily marred: I do quite a bit of stalk hunting for turkey, hiking through some thick brush. The finish on this shotgun gets quickly marked up. That said, it doesn't rust very quickly. Butt stock sling eyelet are small and poorly designed. Finding a sling swivel that will fit will take some time or modification. It is a really durable stock though. Initially hard to take apart: This is due to the tight fitting construction, but it can be frustrating at first. With break-in the take down becomes much easier.

Great semi-auto shotgun! I get compliments on this gun all the time. Although this is the poor man's Benelli it chambers and shoots just as good as the $1600-$1700 Benelli! I can hit clays just as well as the big shots and their Italian guns! Me= laughing all the way to the bank!
