RESPONSE BY BUDS: WITH THOUSANDS OF THESE SOLD AND SHIPPED 81% OF THE CUSTOMER REVIEWS ARE 4 OR 5 STARS. THESE GUNS WERE FROM A HUGE LOT OF POLICE GUNS AND CONDITION WILL VARY. AS THIS CUSTOMER STATES, THEY DID HAVE THE OPTION TO REFUSE AND RECEIVE A REPLACEMENT OR FULL REFUND...BUT CUSTOMER CHOSE TO ACCEPT THE GUN.
Apparently I'm not the only one who get hosed on a recent purchase of one of these.
The gun I received was a 10-8, with a Victoria Police Armory ("VPA") sticker. Less than 50% of the original bluing was present, with the barrel and grip frame down to bare metal. Deep gouges in the trigger guard. The wood grips (non-S&W replacements) were absolutely trashed. Detailed examination revealed light pitting on most surfaces, and a few rust spots.
Worse, cylinder end shake measured .005" and the barrel cylinder gap measured .010", both out of spec. Furthermore, the yoke exhibits evidence of having been stretched at some point, with a pipe-cutter style yoke tool. I was able to correct the end shake with a shim, but I'm stuck with the excessive B/C gap.
The gun functions, but it was not even close to the advertised condition. If it weren't for my state's obnoxious waiting period and the long drive to my FFL, I would have returned it.
