M10-762 Semi-Auto AK Style Rifle 7.62x39 [M10-762]
$799.00

So far, not so good. Got the rifle from the FFL and did a quick look over and made sure it functioned. It was apparent that this is a "base model" of all the AK's. The front sight is canted, the supplied Pro-Mag wobbles and takes a good amount of effort to get in, however it does work. The action will hang unless you slam it back as hard as you can and IMMEDIATELY let go. If you accidentally ride it forward a tad it will stick, even after I cleaned and lubed it. The finish on it looks like something from a rattle can and baked in the oven. The scope mount is SUPER HIGH vs. all the other AK's I've ever mounted a MI scope rail to. All the other AK's I've used I've had to take the scope rail off to pop the top cover off. This is only minor as I just have to adjust my cheek rest. The rails suck to get on and off. It says something about the quality when the instructions tell you to "take a hammer and beat it until it comes off" are freaking serious!!! Not only that but the screws are cross threaded badly. I'm really surprised I was able to get the hand guards back on, but only after taking a file to them to get the lower half to fit. I really have no idea how they even got the hand guards on in the first place. Now for the worst part, it already has rust in some minor places! It is still gunky with cosmoline and the finish scratches WAY too easy! Took me 4hrs and 3 cans of GunScrubber to get most of the cosmoline off. Took it out to the range today and brought 500rounds of different brands to see what it likes. Well after the first 30rnd mag I had to strip it real quick and clean more cosmoline that I missed that was inside the extractor area and made the gun jam. After that it only had 2 FTF because it didn't fully go into battery and made light primer strikes. The 11 mags I brought with me fed fine (30rnd Romanian steel, 40rnd Bulgarian poly, pro-mag, 40rd Asian military steel). The Asian military mag wobbles a tad but the other countries mags fit like a glove. Accuracy could have been better but I guess 4" off a rest at 50 yards isn't too horrible for an AK. This could also be the ammo. I was shooting mainly white box Russian non-corrosive. Out of a 5 shot group I was able to clover 3 rounds with the other 2 1" high with wolf poly FMJ, but this only happened once so I think it was a fluke. It was consistent with 4" groups doing 5 shots @ 50 yards. After running 3 30rnd mags shooting rapid fire the groups opened up to 10". Would have done 100 yrd but that range was taken up. So all in all it's an "OK" gun. If you're strapped for cash go ahead and get it. If not buy a VZ58 (like I should have done) or if you want to stick with an AK look at the stamped Arsenal's. Just remember, you get what you pay for!
