This is a super pistol that takes 45 ACP. Very accurate and needs a firm grip as recoil can be significant. I have a larger hand and grip style is made for smaller hands but it fits me very well. Super quality polish and action. Ready to go out of the box!

This firearm is a real pleasure to shoot. Its reliable, and easy to engage a target from a shoulder or waist holster.

This gun is great. I ordered a spring kit for the hammer and trigger but honestly I don’t think that it needed it at all. I have played with the action and shot every bad guy on tv for the last two weeks. I have not been able to make it to the range but I expect great results. The action is smooth and the gun is beautiful period.

I thought I would like a single action in the same caliber I carry as a defensive pistol-so 45 ACP was it.I really like the feel of this pistol,it seems like it balances really well-and shoots almost as well as my 1911's do.I benched this pistol on a sandbag and at defensive distances it will stack one hole on top of each other-I was rather impressed with the accuracy of this pistol.
Of coarse all I have to do now is learn how to shoot off hand.
I couldn't find one problem with mine-it is a keeper for sure.

Great revolver. Tight build, solid, heavy. This pistol is more accurate than I am. I’m able to lay six shots on top of each other at 8 yards... it’s taken every round I’ve thrown at it, no light strikes, no failures. Cowboy sights take some time to get used to.

I purchased this gun on line and sent to my FFL. If I had purchased in person at the store I would have passed on this one and asked to see another, due to the timing being slow, very slow. When I took it to the range I found that it also shot to the left. So I called Ruger's excellent customer service and they sent me a label to send in for repairs. It took about 2 weeks and I had the gun back in my hands, the timing was fixed and they even adjusted the barrel, so no more shooting to the left, I am very happy with the gun now. This gun is a hoot to shoot and looks great in my custom Huckleberry rig. If you shoot a 45acp in a simi auto this is a good revolver option. I am giving it a 4 star due to having to send to Ruger for repairs, otherwise it would be 5 stars.

Great gun. Solid as a brick, shot well, and the stubby .45 acp cases ejected easily with what I believe is a full length .45 Colt ejector rod. Again, a great, solid gun.

I am almost a year late posting this review. With 12 months use and 500 rounds fired, I am confident in my evaluation. I love this gun. It looks great and feels great in my hand. Right out of the box, mine had a beautiful trigger pull so no after market springs or gunsmithing was needed. For some, 45 ACP may seem an odd choice of caliber, but the ammunition is relatively inexpensive and readily available with a wide choice of brands and styles. Mine shot low and left when received. I corrected the elevation by filing down the front sight. Windage can be corrected by changing sight picture, i.e. holding the front side blade to the far right of the rear notch. Ball ammo (230FMJ) now shoots to point of aim at 15 yards. 45 ACP is not abusive to shoot, yet it provides a very satisfying "thump" when fired. I do not hesitate to recommend this gun.

Buds service was great as usual. The revolver is a beauty and pleasant to shoot. It took getting use to because mine shot low and to the left with 230gr bullets. The front sight appeared to be adjusted (bent) to the right from the factory. Once I figured this out and corrected my sight picture it shoots great now. This is a well balanced revolver, as my friend said its just a pretty cute gun. The finish was really good and the black grips look great. I will enjoy shooting this for some time to come. May become my favorite.

This gun is awesome. Its action is smooth, the trigger is crisp and the loading gate unlocks the cylinder so you dont have to bring the hammer to half cock. In fact, the vaquero cant go to half cock. It has the safety transfer bar so you can load all 6 rounds though the manual still says to load cowboy style with the hammer resting on an empty chamber. It shoots great and is easy to handle. For handloaders, make sure to trim you cases. I have some 500 grn swc's i was looking forward to trying, but the casings were too long for the cylinder so i couldnt shoot them. Other than that it ate my 230grn fmj round nose and my 230grn xtp's with no problems. Cleans up nice, the stainless steel is gorgeous and the black wood grips complement the overall look very well. Trying to fan the gun is slightly worrying on the first shot so i cock and fire 1 then fan the rest.

I’ve been a Ruger fan for years and this birdshead Vaquero doesn’t disappoint. It’s a bit heavy, but that reduces the felt recoil. Buds delivered very quickly and at a very reasonable price. I’m a happy camper.

Very nice gun. Quality is great. only regret is not buying it in .45 Colt instead. The lead 45 ACP's I load for my 1911 had some headspacing issues with this gun. This probably not a problem with jacketed bullets but I only shoot lead reloads.

Bud's service was great. The gun is beautiful. The New Vaquero, however, is in the process of being sent back to Ruger. It initially had a very stiff loading gate. On the 24th round fired, the gate would not open. I tried some tips found on the internet to no avail, but also discovered this is an all too common problem with this gun. I am sure that Ruger will take care of it, but goodness sake, a new gun should function like a new gun!

Be ready to file the front sight. Mine shot 12 inches low at 20 yards.

Excellent pistol. Bud's was flawless. Really good looking pistol. Took about 50 rounds to get used to the fixed sights but now no problem. Hardly any kick for a 45 acp. My first cowboy gun, like it so much I think I'll get a 5.5" Vaquero to keep it company.

Really a nice pistol. It has a matte stainless finish, not a high gloss and I think it looks great. It is built like a tank. The birdshead grip feels really good in the hand and that struck me as unusual as I have a large hand. It is just a cool pistol that is built well. The shorter barrel matches the grip shape and the pistol looks and feels balanced. I imagine it will last several lifetimes.

This is one fine handgun. The action is smooth, the trigger is nice and the finish and fit are perfect. Also, much easier to load and unload because no half-cock notch. Just open the loading gate and the cylinder turns for loading and unloading. Revolver is on the heavy side, but that reduces felt recoil. Very happy with this purchase.

I couldn't be happier with this purchase of the Ruger BHG 45.. It is a joy to shoot and is more accurate than I had expected. The service from Buds was a pleasant experience and shipping was quick and painless..

This gun was worth the wait, (over a year) but it is fun to shoot and built like a tank!, very accurate with light recoil, this one has had and will continue to have some serious in the hand time, only thing that I wish is that the electronic checking wait time for team buds members was waived, I have made several purchases and want to get the 3% not added to the purchase price so have to wait an extra 5-10 days before it is released to ship. The gun however is excellent!!!

This gun has a perfect finish- the grips are really nice and it functions perfectly- accurate right out of the box. The build and heft of this weapon gives me the impression it will last several life times. The trigger pull was smooth but a bit heavy for a single action but I suspect it will smooth out with use. If you like single action revolvers this is a must have. BUY IT

Always wanted a birdshead. This gun is just fun as heck to shoot and looks better than the picture. Had to file down the front sight a tad but its dead on now. Excellent shooter at a great price

I purchased mine almost a year ago and have had several chances to take it with absolutely no complaints and all praise. Extremely well built, solid enough to last for several generations and very enjoyable to shoot. You cannot find a more simple and rugged firearm that is as reliable as the Vaquero combined with the proven 45acp cartridge equals a great all around package with enough power to get the job done every time. My friends all enjoy shooting it as much as I do, once they have shot everything we brought with us they usually ask to shoot the Vaquero again :)
