For the price, you can't go wrong with this fun little Russian surplus rifle.
This rifle comes coated in cosmoline, and while it makes handling it icky at first, cleaning all that gunk off will familiarize you with the rifle more than you could imagine. Call it owner-rifle bonding time.
The 91/30 is a gas to shoot; I use old surplus ammo (in the old surplus gun, seeing a pattern here?) and it's still rock solid. The straight bolt handle takes a bit of a strong arm to seat with a round in the chamber, but it begins feeling natural quickly.
Just one word of warning: Don't expect to slap a reproduction Mosin scope on this bad boy and start imagining you're the White Death. The straight bolt handle will knock it right off, if you can even get the thing mounted properly (most report having to grind or shim the scope mount, requiring gunsmith-level tools, knowledge, and precision.)
However if you're looking for a cheap (and I mean cheap) rifle to make big noise with and knock some cans down at moderate distances, the 91/30's your man!
