Just picked up my weapon today, and was pleasantly surprised bu the condition of this Chinese Type 53 Carbine. Although the stock is well used I believe that with a very little effort it will clean up real nice. As for the metal, NO rust and really protected with cosmoline the bayonet fit is tight and there are no dings. what really makes this special is that all serial numbers but the bolt match that is a nice plus.
This is a surplus weapon and I got better than expected. Buds said these weapons were in good shape, however, good is a subjective assessment and I did not expect anything to great, again was I surprised. I will not in the future be afraid to order a surplus weapon from Buds Gun Shop.
My Chinese Type 53 Carbine will take a lot of cleaning before I can take it to the range, but both myself and the FFL dealer/gunsmith that handled this transaction do not think that there will be any problems with firing this weapon, in fact the FFL said that he most of the surplus weapons that have come through his shop have been in much worse condition than this one is.
When I was in Vietnam most of the Chi-Coms recovered were in worse shape than this one.
I should have bought another one, (silently kicking myself) but, ya just don't know.
