This was my first 1911 purchase and overall I am very happy with it... I used Bud's layaway service with no problems...
The good:
Nice fit and finish...not a scratch or bad spot in the finish, and the slide/frame/barrel fitment is right where it should be...
The bad:
I did have an issue right away where when activating the thumb safety, the detent would pop out of the tube, and I would need to poke it back in for the safety to be disengaged... I called Buds, they sent me a pre-paid shipping label... Their gunsmith re-staked the detent tube and sent it back to me all free of charge - as they state - guaranteed 100%...! The gun's controls work like a charm now - no issues...
The modifications:
I am used to either white dot sights or night sights, so the standard GI sights were hard to see...as stated by many feedback results... I had a set of high visibility sight paint, so I added some white to the sights for a better picture... Since the frame is void of checkering, and I like their products so much, I took off the walnut grips and installed a set of wrap-around Houge grips with finger grooves... Great "all black" look, and the feel is ideal for my hand size and grip... I also found that the stock beaver tail was digging into my hand before I even fired a shot, so I knew I wanted to replace that... I ended up getting a drop in Wilson Combat Beaver Tail, Value-Line Commander Hammer, Value-Line Sear, and an Ed Brown Hardcore Sear Spring...Great additions, more comfort, and all for around $100 and about an hour worth of work...
The future:
I can see using this as a bench toy to learn the 1911 platform, and to practice disassembly, modifications, and try out various configurations... I would like to try my hand at checkering the front strap, and possibly the original wood grip panels... Past that, I only hope I can afford the ammo to feed this new toy...!
Thanks Buds!
