Outstanding shotgun for the price. I have a Mossberg 500 but wanted higher capacity and it seemed better deal to pick up the 7+1 Maverick since they are essentially the same mechanically, save for one component made in Mexico and I would have had to change out the barrel on the 500 to extend the magazine. From the moment I took it out of the box I was impressed. Both the finish and feel of the Maverick 88 were substantially better than the 500. I took it out to Elm Fork range in Dallas, Tx and went through the skeet stations. I was competing against my dad who had a high end Beretta 20 gauge over/under. Before we started he told me good luck with that scattergun. When we were done my scattergun had hit 8 of ten clays on all but one station, and if I had not gone 0 for 10 on that one station then the Maverick would have beat the Berreta (or @ least I would have beat my dad). That problem station was at the greatest distance, and the 20 gauge with adjustable choke just had the distance advantage. Overall, I was super impressed with the accuracy of this $200 shotgun, an outstanding deal for home defense and even shooting clays.
