Springfield 45ACP 4" Black NS
by Anthony F Date Added: Sunday 22 April, 2007
After shooting about 100 rounds through this gun, I decided that Ive finally found the firearm thats going to replace my 1911 as my full size carry gun. Though Glockish at first glance, it sets itself apart when putting rounds downrange. The trigger is smooth, crisp and light. The sights are genuine Trijicon and look fine. My perceived recoil with this gun was less than with my Glock .40 that I was shooting at the same time. The gun indexes so well that it seemed to fall back down into my natural point of aim. The raised chamber loaded indicator up top and protruding cocked alert pin at the back are great features. Once my 13 round magazine gets here, Ill have a full 14 rounds of .45ACP in a sidearm no bigger than a full-framed Glock 22 (.40S&W). I thought these guns came with one 13 rounder and one 10 rounder, but they come with 2 10s.

Cons? The gun is a little stiff all over, though Im hoping that it will loosen up a bit with time. The spring is stiff when sliding the action back and the slide stop lever is hard to operate with the firing hand only. The magazine doesnt want to slide out with a full 10 rounds in it (though this did get better). The grip safety is essentially a little plastic strip that sits at the back of the grip and feels odd until you get a firm grip on the gun. On the 1911 the grip safety is a wide band of metal, integral with the beaver-tail and essentially almost pulls the gun tighter into your grip. This one doesnt. With the trigger safety, a grip safety is a little redundant and quite frankly unnecessary if you use the safety between your ears.

This is now my carry gun of choice when clothing allows and has relegated my 1911 back to the safe except for range days. Great shooting, minimal recoil and an amazing 14 round capacity in a .45ACP.
