Please give this gun a chance. The coating on the barrel and receiver is meant for corrosion resistance. It may not be as “smooth” as you would like out of the box. Get your butt out there and shoot a couple hundred rounds and the action smooths up considerably. This shotgun will last a lifetime. Quality made in the USA.

After ton of reading and studying of the Mossberg Mariner and Remington Marine Magnum I got chance to shoot both. I prefer the Mossberg on 2 basis first was controls which allow different fingers to operate different things so can keep trigger to get off or on the trigger without employing to do other chores. Second reason was the capacity holding 8+1 was the seller.
I did not purchase this gun for home defence it is for muggy humid south Texas weather spending too much time outdoors waiting for coyote.
Happy with the purchase and happy with process as well first gun I bought on line and Buds was great.

Mossberg 590 Mariner Model: 50299 . It shipped with the wrong manual. The manual was for a Patriot Bolt Action centerfire rifle. And the capacity is not 9 1, as advertised. It is 8 1. I have a picture showing 8 shells next to the magazine. There has to be room for the coil and spring.

Great, durable home defense shotgun. By all accounts I have read with civilians and law enforcement the Mossberg marinecote finish holds up well over the years even in harsh environments. The marinecote finish is designed to resist corrosion from salt spray and hot humid environments. If you need a shotgun for defense and you live in Florida or own a boat, this is your gun. My Mossberg Marinecote shoots great. Smooth action. The Mossberg has double shell extractors. When you rack the action it flings the spent hulls well clear of the receiver. I can't say enough good about the 500/590 series. If my life or the lives of my loved ones is on the line, I would not hesitate to reach for The Mossberg Marinecote 590.

Super fast shipping! Ordered around 1 am Monday morning and picked it up from my local FFL today (Wednesday) I haven't got a chance to shoot it yet, but I'm happy with the speed of delivery and the gun looks very nice! I would definitely buy from Bud's again!

I had an excellent experience purchasing this shotgun from Budsgunshop. This was my first online purchase of a firearm and everything went well. Budsgunshop even helped locate the closest FFL to my location. This is my first shotgun so I don't feel educated enough to write a thorough review. I can say this, it's a lot of fun to shot and seems very solid.

I am really happy with this purchase. I spent a lot of time researching and was hoping that this would be my most versatile weapon for sport shooting, hunting and home defense. The quality of the 590 is A++. I spent 500+ shells today (various rounds). I had zero jams and .. A LOT of fun. I placed my order online on Thursday and picked it up at Bud's here in Lexington on Tuesday. I can't say enough for the service and professionalism of these guys. Thanks.

Incredibly fun, durable, accurate shotgun, with superb service from Bud's, as always.

I bought this shotgun in September and received in with in a week. I've been holding off on the review because I haven't had a chance to shoot it. Now that I have here are my thoughts. This 590 Special Purpose shotgun performs flawlessly. From 2 3/4inch shells to the 3inch no feeding problems. Bird shot, double 00 buckshot, triple 000 buckshot, and slugs all fired perfectly and super accurately from this beast. Changing from stock to pistol grip is self-explanatory. I prefer to keep the pistol grip on when keeping it around the house. However when I am out doors I prefer the stock. Obviously using the pistol grip makes it kind of hard to shoot and it hurts the hand. Overall though it's a very fun experience with either one. Now I did have a HUGE problem with this shotgun when it came to disassembly. The magazine cap is supposed to unscrew by hand. However I found it IMPOSSIBLE to unscrew. I had to use a set of pliers with rubber to get this thing off. Once I did get it off I examined the cap and the tube and they seemed to be in perfect condition. Screwing it back on required the pliers again. This is unacceptable. I did some research and as it turns out the spring retainer cause the magazine tube to expand, which is why it's to hard to screw the cap on. I took that off and have had no problems since. It screws on like it should. Perfect shotgun minus the spring retainer problem, which is an easy fix. 5 star service from buds. If I ever decide to buy another gun, this is the place for me. If you have this problem with your shotgun just get rid of the spring retainer in the magazine tube. Yeah it's nice but it's not worth it. The tube is aluminum and the retainer is steel. Obviously this is causing the tube to expand enough to make it a problem. Anyways I am in love with my shotgun and could not be happier. I even added a mariner heat shield that I also bought here from buds. Word of advice, the mariner heat shield sold on this site is not really designed for this particular mossberg shotgun model. I mean it will still fit but don't expect the screws to work. Either way it doesn't need screws since it's a pretty tight fit to get it on there. It's pretty secure. I did scratch the barrel a bit while putting it on but nothing major. Just be careful if you do decide to add a heat shield and do some research on getting the proper one if you are looking to do things by the book.
