The 590A1 Heavy is likely one of the best Mossy shottys. I am partial to the Remi 870, having carried them for many years. However, that said, I do not feel under equipped with this Mossy. The trigger housing and safety button are metal instead of the plastic used on the 500 series. The ghost ring sights were right on from the box, easy to acquire with both eyes open and the front blade is visible with its orange hi-viz slash-mark. Even with open choke, this shotty patterns well. The gun will put all pellets from 000 Buck inside center mass at 50 feet; slugs are on at 100 yards. I have to believe that the heavy barrel will withstand substantial impact and offer exceptional service life. I really like the fact that the barrel can be removed with the turn of the mag-tube cap... Remington should learn from that one. One drawback is the this gun is front heavy, being a 20 inch. When one-handed, there is a noticable heft when keeping the shotty shouldered during reload. The 870P will continue to ride duty but, this 590A1 Heavy has found a home.
