Great gun @ great price!!!!! Msrp on Taurus site is about $650. Can't beat Bud's price. This is my first personal handgun purchase. Overall quality was bad at first because I ordered a new pt 840 but when I received it, it had a pt 809 clip in the gun and the PT840 clip in the cushion of the box. Gun looked somewhat used. Needless to say, I had to pay to send the 9mm clip back to Taurus the other day so I can get my other .40 clip shipped to me after finding out there wasn't any extra clips available for my gun at Bud's. I understand things happen and it isn't their fault if they order the guns from the manufacturer and it came like that. Went to the range today and decided to take a look inside to make sure it was oiled okay; there was gunk and thick oil, which explained why the slide seemed so stiff to me and the magazine was stiff too. The barrel had residue as if it was fired. Cleaned and oiled everything and the gun felt perfect. Fired about 115 shots and it fired great. There was a little more recoil than I expected but I was comparing it to my friend's Sig229, which I fired numerous times in the past, including today. All in all, the 840 is a great gun, it's lighter than the Sig and you can't beat the price here. It shot well and felt great after the cleanup. Never jammed! I used Winchester 40 S&W 180 gr jhp for the first round clip and then used the cheap range ammo 40 S&W 180gr FMJ. All worked fine. Think I was more comfortable with the hollow points. Besides the weird experience of getting the gun in the wrong configuration and looking used more than tested or new like I bought it and thought it would come as, it's a great gun! Thank You to Nick at Budsgunshop for helping to point me in the right direction on my magazine issue. Either Taurus or whoever else that handled the gun originally needs to do a better job of sending a unused, brand new gun or if my gun was new or refurbished, they could have done a better job at inspection or testing of the gun. The good magazine and wrong magazine had residue on it too. I really wonder bow new the gun really is. Either way, I cleaner it up pretty good and like I said, it fires great and accurate.
