The purchase of the CZ Phantom was my first gun purchase, so the views expressed are from a beginning shooter. My intended purpose for this gun is a combination of home defense and target shooting (too large IMO for CC).
Pros: Out of the box, it shoots accurately and feeds and ejects without issues (have put 3 different brands of 115 FMJ through it, plus about 50 rounds of a friend's reloads, all in and out without exception). The trigger in SA mode is great, with follow shots coming quickly. The weight of the gun is in line with other full size polymer 9mm pistols, and 18+1 capacity is towards to the top end of that category. With regards to safety features, the gun does not have a manual safety (which I like), only a decocking lever. That, to me, is a pro (not a con). One other thing...this gun is aesthetically more pleasing to my eye than other manufacturers' more blocky offerings.
Cons: The trigger in DA isn't smooth (if you go the CZ forum site, you'll come across numerous Phantom owners complaining about the DA trigger being stagey). This does not bother me in the least, as once I slap in a magazine and rack the slide, I'm in SA mode, and will remain so until the magazine is empty. So a stagey DA trigger isn't a point of contention for me.
Conclusion: If you're in the market for a full size polymer 9mm, you will most likely consider gun like the Glock 17, Springfield XD or XD(M), or the S&W M&P9. Do yourself a favor and put this gun on your list of considerations, as it was my final pick, and I have absolutely no regrets. If I had to buy again, I would pick the CZ Phantom without reservation and I wouldn't look back.
