I got my hi point .40 about a month ago. I'm not that into guns, but things have gotten a little crazy around here lately, so I decided I need some protection and didn't want to spend a lot of money on a handgun. I did a lot of research on the Hi Point brand and had a hard time finding negative reviews. Here are the down sides of the gun: 1) BIG. 2) Heavy. That's okay with me because I don't plan on carrying it concealed. The good: 1) Accurate 2) Smooth 3) Reliable. I bought some seriously cheap CNL rounds and only had a couple of jams in 250 rds. It never jammed with my good JHP rounds. I think the size and heft help keep the barrel down. The recoil is very slow and predictable. I'm a former Marine and had a lot of fireams training. 4 time rifle expert, 2 time pistol expert. I was a LOT more accurate with this pistol than my with my dad's Kimber .45ACP. All my buddies have Glock .40 compacts and sub-compacts. Naturally, the longer barrel on the HP is more accurate than those two, which is more important to me than hiding it. I'm very happy with this gun. I also should add that I bought a Hogue Universal grip.
