I did indeed get a third generation gun. Thicker barrel like the 590A1. My sights are straight and the extension tube is not canted. Strange thing is that it has the blue piston spring from the 1st-2nd generation models, which in turn makes it not cycle shot that is not at least 1-1/8 OZ. The standard 1 OZ low brass rounds from Winchester will not cycle at all. The good news is that the same priced low brass 1-1/8 OZ Federal low brass stuff will. Honestly its not a deal killer for me to be shooting "lower recoil" cartouches as they are for women or sissies and this is not a firearm for either.
Two complaints which makes me rate this at 4 stars instead of 5 is that they still cant get the hand guard right, I fondled at least 10 different guns from various places and not a single one of them had a solid hand guard. Mossberg has stepped up their quality control obviously from the 1st to the 3rd generation guns but this should not be an issue for a $700 shotgun. Lastly, whats up with the cheap finish? You cant spend another $10 in house and blue the damn gun, anything would be better then the parkerized/spray canned garbage they put on this thing.
To make it simple, if you are expecting an M4 don't get your hopes up, its half the price for a reason and if you are a serious 3 gun guy at least buy an SLP, you will be much happier.
Buds did good on getting this one to me very fast, unlike some of the last few...
