I own a couple of pistols (Sig 226 and Glock 26), but really wanted the fun of having a revolver. After months of contemplation, I was caught between buying a sub-standard Rossi or Taurus, or over-spending for a Smith and Wesson. Don't get me wrong, I imagine both of these manufactures have their upsides and downsides, but I still believe in "you get what you pay for."
VOILA! The Ruger GP-100. Price is right in between the Taurus and Smith AND you get the fun benefit of buying a monster hand-cannon!
Out of the box this sucker impressed me. It weighs a metric tonne and has a great look to it.
Took it out to the farm yesterday. Put a box of .38 and.357 thogh it and I literally CAN'T WAIT to go shoot it again. With the weight of the revolver, the .38 felt like a .380 and with the .357, the stock Hogue Monogrip made the power FUN to wield.
Accuracy? "Tight groups" don't even begin to do it justice. This thing is a sniper rifle.
Over all, it's a great gun, great look, GREAT PRICE, great serivce (ordered it Monday, got it in Alabama Tuesday), and a blast to shoot.
The thing looks so intimidatig, I almost want to make it my home protection piece. If any bad guy saw me with that thing in my hand, he would kindly ask for some toilet paper and leave.
