I finally got a chance to sight this rifle in today. It does have some kick, but unless you are shooting a lot of rounds it's fine. It does make me want to invest into a heavier gun in the future, one that will absorb more of the impact. My rifle was just a bit off in how the barrel sits in the fore-grip, but hey nothing is perfect right? This is why we sight the rifle/scope in, to get it on point. The magazine fed my ammo well and I really like the more narrow grip where the stock begins to meet the action.
Once we sighted the scope in, I was pleased with the way the rifle shot. I will buy Savage again in the future!
Cons:
My bolt was a bit contrary to open/close. Maybe after some usage it will become more smooth.
Recoil is a bit more due to the lightweight of the rifle. ( trade off for saving $ )
My buddy felt the trigger was a bit too hard to squeeze, but I did not have a problem with it. It comes down to what you are used to shooting and how well you adjust. It was just right for me.
I give this gun a 4/5 for some imperfections, but I'm very critical so my 4's can be similar to other's 5's. And just to be clear on my grading scale, 3 would have been acceptable, 4 is a really good, and 5 would have been amazing. $300 rifles aren't going to be amazing in my opinion, they're made to be cost effective and that means you give up a few amenities like less recoil.
The price gets a 5/5 because I picked it up when it was $306.00 and I feel a dependable deer rifle at this price is a good buy.
