OK, how do I say this? I hate striker fire pistols. I like 1911’s so you know what kind of trigger I like…
This Walther PPQ9 is INCREDIBLE!!! I’ve only owned one striker fire pistol and it’s extremely reliable, I carry it on my ankle when I need an ankle CCW, but I can’t put my shots nearly as tight as I can with my other pistols. So I said never again with the striker pistols.
Now comes the ‘but’… I’ve been in the market for another 9mm and I had it narrowed down to two, standard DA/SA of course, and then I saw the PPQ. I didn’t like the fact that it was a striker fire, but I remembered that I liked the feel of the P99, which preceded the PPQ, so I went and read up on it. I’m glad I did.
Take everything good you’ve ever read or heard about this gun and believe it. I put 150 rounds (FMJ, cast Bayou Bullets, and 4 kinds of JHP) through it within hours of picking it up from my FFL. No jams, extremely accurate, trigger is as smooth and fast as any single action (VERY short reset), fills up the hand just right, and the mags even have the little holes on the back like a Glock so you know exactly how many rounds are left just by looking at the back of it after you remove it.
I’m still getting used to the Euro mag release, but at least this one is nice and long and you can easily hit it with your trigger finger without having to adjust your grip. Even a standard button release I have to adjust my grip, so once I stop looking for the button, this should be even better.
I never thought I’d buy another striker fire weapon, but I just made this one my new favorite CCW. Five stars, and I’d give it Six if I could…
