It’s a Sig…..Need I say more? But I can’t leave it at just that. I ordered the Sig 1911 Ultra on 30 Aug 12. It arrived at my FFL on 10 Sep 12. Not the fastest shipping I’ve received from Bud’s but well within their promised shipping time. I paid $867, including shipping. Bud’s beat the nearest competitor by over $30. Thanks Bud’s! You guys rock! The gun arrives in Sig’s black box with two stainless steel mags, a lock, a tube of lube, and the standard Sig 1911 owner’s manual with an additional Ultra model break down instruction sheet. When I first saw the mags I was disappointed. I would have sworn they were six round mags. I compared them to my other 1911 seven and eight round mags. The Ultra’s mags are about a quarter inch shorter than standard seven round 1911 mags. But they do, to my surprise, hold seven rounds. I also fit tested the standard Colt seven round and the Wilson Combat eight round mags in the Ultra. They fit, but do protrude about a quarter inch beyond the grip. I plan to use this gun as my primary CCW weapon so I’ll carry it loaded with one of the factory seven round mags and carry an extra Wilson Combat eight rounder as my spare. I thoroughly inspected the Ultra before accepting the transfer. I couldn’t find a single flaw. That’s something I’ve come to expect from Sig. I brought the Ultra home and gave her a good cleaning. The pistol was well oiled but had obviously been test fired. (Which is a good thing) After giving her a good cleaning I decided to test fit her in some of my holsters. She slipped perfectly into my Crossbreed IWB holster that I had bought to carry a “railed” 1911. The fit was snug but not tight. I think I could easily run with the Ultra in this holster and not worry about it falling out. I wanted to give her a good break in with different high and low end ammo. So I filled a range bag with Tula, Winchester, Federal, and Blazer ammo. Besides the Sig mags I also brought Colt and Wilson Combat mags. The gun preformed flawlessly. Not a single FTF or FTE. The sights were true to aim making one inch groupings at 25 feet. Recoil was very manageable. There was only a slight recoil increase from a full size 1911. For three days now I’ve been wearing the Ultra in the Crossbreed holster. At just over two pounds fully loaded I almost forget it’s there. For a very comfortable, accurate and reliable pistol you will not be disappointed in the Sig Ultra Nitron 1911.
