Fits my M4 "okay". I have to fit it in diagonally because of the A4 post and because there is a pocket inside of the main compartment that looks to house a scope. So, if you use that compartment, the barrel of your rifle will actually be facing the bottom left side of the case. That's right, the bottom "left" and the buttstock is actually on the right side of the case (the round end). Although, if you do not use the inside compartment, you can flatten the inside compartment and have your rifle sit the way that it should. I just find that a waste of a pocket.
In the outside, left, square pocket, you can hold pistol as there are straps to hold it in place. That's what I used it for. The outside, middle vertical pocket holds 2 30rd mags. The outside, two, horizontal pockets can hold three 50rd boxes of pistol ammo and seven 20rd boxes of 5.56 ammo.
There are 3 ways to carry the bag: Shoulder strap, by hand, or even as a backpack. This really is a pretty good bag. Other than the inside compartment issue, if this bag had padding for the main compartment, I would have rated this as 5.
