Very pleased with this rifle. A couple of things to note if you're thinking about buying one:
- in .223, it has a 1-9" twist. so it'll shoot the 64-69 g bullets.
- does not have the accustock, has the old-style savage tuppeware stock. very flimsy, but hey, i like the green.
- accutrigger came out of the box in my example at 3.25 lbs with no creep.
- it's cheap. barrel to stock fit is sloppy, although it is free-floated. barrel doesn't sit straight in the channel on my example. if this is gonna bother you, don't buy the rifle. or buy it and expect to replace the stock.
- has old-style bolt release and blind magazine. easier to find aftermarket stock for this setup than the newer bolt-release-on-triggerguard models.
- barrel length and weight on this gun is RIGHT for me. 20" barrel with a medium contour that is lighter than the savage varmint contour, but heavy enough that it gives the rifle decent balance without a muzzle-light whippy feel.
just to reiterate, it's cheap. if you're gonna get in a huff about the stock being flimsy, or a barrel being slightly askew in the stock, don't buy it. plunk down another couple $100's and get something else. if you don't mind, and want a heavier-contour barrel rifle in carbine length that shoots and carries great for a good price, go for it.
i personally think this rifle is more what a savage should be. this one will shoot as well as one of the $700-1000 models, and it's about half the price.
