Picked this up today from the FFL dealer. Bolt is smooth operating and the feel promotes confidence. The trigger is just what Savage advertises: smooth and light, with no creep or overtravel, and is very crisp. I've handled much more expensive rifles with worse triggers. Bolt removal/installation is very easy, as is full disassembly. I like the scope as well, although a little longer eye relief would have been nice.
The real downside seems to be the magazine. It needs a pretty solid push to get it to lock, and there is no clear click to let you know it's done it. This resulted in me spending a lot of time pushing on it, and then pulling again to see if it had locked in, which it often had not. Not a make-or-break kind of an issue, but definitely makes it take longer to get ready to shoot. This is obviously less crucial for a bolt-action hunting or target rifle than for a tactical rifle, but it still concerns me a bit.
Although I haven't shot it yet, I did spend some time testing feeding and extraction/ejection, and no problems there. I did have one round that didn't feed, but that was my fault for not pulling the bolt back far enough.
Can't say enough good things about the trigger. With a merely okay trigger, I would have given it 3 stars because of the magazine. But with this outstanding trigger, I feel like I can get past the magazine issue and just love the gun.
