I just got my P229 today, and I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. It isn't my first SIG, and not even my first P229, so I don't expect any surprises. SIG makes high quality and reliable pistols. Before I ordered it, I was a little anxious about the finish, since I have read so many negative comments about the Diamond Plate finish on various forums and the internet, but I'd never seen one in person. I ordered this model to use mainly as a home defense weapon, and it is about $200 cheaper than the other P229s, so I really wasn't too concerned about the finish on the slide...all I wanted was a reliable pistol. However, when I first saw the pistol at my FFL dealer, I thought that Bud's had sent me the wrong gun! The shop was a little dark, and the Diamond Plate didn't really stand out...it looked like a regular stainless slide. When I got home and unboxed it, the Diamond Plate was more evident, but still very understated, in my opinion. Not at all garish or unappealing! I really am very happy with this pistol so far, and I look forward to taking it to the range. Bud's communication was excellent and the shipping was very fast (I am a VIP member, and this was eligible for next day shipping for VIP members.) I couldn't ask for more!
