The Shield is garnering rave reviews, with few mentions of any problems -- this is virtually unprecedented for the roll out of a new pistol, particular one that is small. As is well-established, small pistols have more than their share of problems affecting reliability; it must be the physics of short travels, fast actions, springs that get compressed quickly, etc., compared to full-size autos. Well, most of the competition that has come to market in the past couple of years (I won't mention brand names) in this size range has had problems. The Shield just plain seems to work well. And it is pretty accurate, too, and user friendly. As a design, in terms of dimensions and weight, it fits a new niche for S&W M&Ps. Although it is very thin and flat, it is not really a "pocket pistol" (pants pocket) but it is a pistol to be carried in small IWB or belt holster, or in a bag, or in a jacket pocket, it is perfect. The one I received from Bud's was in perfect condition in every regard.
