well, this is an interesting gun. First of all, check out the nearly 50 reviews of the same gun in all black.
I paid $211 for this on Buds. So keep that in mind. Is this as good as a baby glock 26? I have a 26 and love it. i love the way it fits my hand and I shoot very accurately with it. And I'm a reasonably big guy - 6' 225.
But this Taurus is $211, let me re-state that. I think the going price is $268 on Buds. You could buy 2 of them for the price of a Glock 26. Is it as good as a 26? As solid? No way. No way.
But it is a solid performer? Yes.
When I received this, I'd read they tend to arrive dirty. So I field stripped it. There was corrosion and grease all over the recoil rod spring, which doesn't inspire confidence. Corrosion? The center support was black, like it had been shot and not cleaned. there was some powder in the barrel. I assume they shot this before it left the factory. But they sure didn't clean it. I was a little shocked but again, every response to this gun has to be tempered by its cost. So I cleaned it up nicely with some Ballistol and it looked fine, and took it to the range and put about 100 rounds through it - Federal 115, some old south african factory loads, and about 50 reloads I bought back in the early 90's. Not one failure to feed or eject. Accuracy at 15-30 feet was good, shot consistently a little low but easy to adjust sights with included tool. As you can read, long trigger pull. Good trigger, not a Walther or CZ, but crisp and reproducible. Very surprising lack of recoil. Decent to good sights (I really like the Glock U sights). But these were fine.
Very easy to field strip. Decent safety. I like the additional lock but can't see using it unless it is my only gun and therre are kids in the house. Supplied with 2 mags, pouches, and 2 lock/sight adjustment tools.
So would I carry this? It's light, very attractive, well made. So far, very reliable. Cleaned up nicely. If I was a young person who didn't have a lot of money and wanted to carry a decent quality 9, definitely. (and BTW, I shot it side by side with my S & W bodyguard 380 and I'm not really that, um....accurate with the Bodyguard...wish I could carry a 9.) So If I had a glock 26, no, I wouldn't carry the Taurus. Now, I almost bought the 24/7 a few months ago but it was so poorly reviewed I backed out of the buy. But this is different. It's not a Jennings or a Bryco. It feels better than its price. If it was $500, forget it. Glock every time. If the glock was $211, glock every time. however, Taurus PT 111 G2 9mm for $211 vs. a Glock for $500? I may just buy a couple and give them to my son(s).
