Probably one of the best 556r versions. Sad they moved on to other things. One of the smoothest shooters I've ever had.

This is my favorite 556 rifle. the finish and quality of manufacturing is second to none. Shoots great out to 500 yards with a USMC ACOG. Very nice. If you can afford it, you will love it. SIG!

An extremely fun shooter and another typical over-engineered product from Sig. The only gripe is Sig's owner's manual. Its detail, font size and general vague references and indicators, force you to rely on the website and Youtube. I'm not even that old, but I can barely read it! Still, a superb handling rifle and will be a keeper. Bud's transactions are always flawless though.Good people and good prices. Thanks all.

Really love this rifle. I just got back from the range and show my first 100+ rounds with it. No issues at all. I am using a Strike Eagle 1-6 scope that I had quickly sighted in with a laser. The first 30 rounds landed all in the black silhouette of the 25 yard target. No malfunctions at all (as it should be). I used the magazine that came with the gun (don't really care for the flimsy looking metal magazine) as well as two different Magpul PMAGs. No issue with either. After receiving the gun, I removed the white grease (lithium grease?) that Sig had applied at the factory. It was too heavy for my taste and I just used regular CLP and let it sit for a couple days. There are plenty of reviews of the gun, so nothing new here. People seem to either hate or love it. I love it. I wasn't terribly happy with Buds. Took forever to ship the gun. But that isn't the gun's fault so still 5 stars. (maybe 3 1/2 for Buds)

I have just started dealing with Buds not too long ago and their customer service and professionalism is nothing like I have experienced around here ! simply EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!!!! so far I have shot about 800-900 rounds with the 556 xi and if I had to do it all over again I would buy the same gun again, it so far has worked flawless, accurate , shots amazingly well. The built quality is excellent and the gun feels great .... very easy to disassemble and clean. I will be buying the Russian version of this very same gun ........

I purchased this rifle about a year ago from Bud's, using the layaway program. I have to say, that layaway program is pretty great. Anyway, I got the gun in and had it transferred over, everything was fine. I took it home, unboxed it, and inspected it thoroughly. First thing I noticed right off the bat was the large crack in the stock, hidden under the cheek guard. It looks like the rifle was either dropped somewhere along the way, or they had a damaged stock and just said screw it and put it on the rifle anyway. I don't really care, it's just a crack and doesn't seem to be enough to warrant a replacement stock or anything like that. I just found it odd that the entire rifle came in pristine, and I mean right out of the factory pristine, condition and I take this plastic piece off and there's a huge crack. Oh well. The rifle shoots pretty darn well. As stated in other reviews, it doesn't like Tula very much. Had two light strikes the first time I took it out to shoot. I blame the ammo, not the rifle. Tula is known for having crappy primers. It went through Remington like it was going out of fashion, no hang ups, no misfires, no cycling issues. Not a bad choice for a mid-range rifle. It's no SCAR-16, but you're not going to have to take out a second mortgage to afford it. It just feels... like quality. Except for the cracked stock, which I would probably replace with a Magpul extending folder or something anyway, I am very, very happy with this as my first rifle. Bud's got it to me quickly (a week or so to my local FFL), and it was in good shape. Love it.

Fantastic rifle. I have no complaints whatsoever on the function and accuracy of this rifle. I do however have a problem with the stock mag. I have had at least one FTL on every instance using the aluminium stock mag, packed with between 6 - 30 rounds. However, my PMags and others operate flawlessly. Other than the stock mag issue, everything on this gun is very sound and great value for the price. Please ignore the bad reviews about heavy trigger pull. The rifle intentionally operates on a two stage trigger, and some folks just can't fathom that concept.

This Sig 556XI is Absolutely AWESOME!!!!! Great trigger action very crisp. Love the feel of the rifle couldn't be happier with it. Accurate right out of the box didn't get to shoot it that much but what I did ,its a great rifle And as always Buds was great to work with. Can't wait to get the optional barrel for the 762x39mm if your looking for a great AR that is very versatile this is the one. Thanks buds

Just received my rifle Friday the 23rd from Buds. Outstanding! I am a Sig fanatic from way back and I can say this is the best Rifle ever. the light weight and handling is excellent and as a LEO that is important! This is my second buy from Buds and I would give them, their service and this Sig rifle FIVE STARS. LH

I was hoping for a better rifle for $1200 dollars compared to a 600$ ar15 but I didnt get it. horrible trigger, long and it seems a 10'lb trigger pull. Accuracy is not bad but not noteworthy. My clone ar's would run circles over this one.

nice looking gun but I think they nickel and dime you on the scratched up magazine they fit with the rifle. I purchased three 223 rifle simultaneously for me, my son and my daughter. The sig was for me, the Core15 was for my son and an M&P 15 was my daughters. We used 4 different kinds of ammo up to the cheapest Russian ammo you can get and the Sig won't cycle the Tulammo. The M&P 15 however was taking anything you put in. Bottom line was I got beat by a rifle I paid half off what I paid for mine. Accuracy at up to 45 yards they all shot a group of an inch or less at the bench rest. Save your money unless you are really a Sig fan.

This is an outstanding rifle! I love it! The Sig 556xi version was definitely worth waiting and paying slightly more for (instead of getting one of the previous gen models). The xi"s controls are now fully ambidextrous, including the ability to swap the charging handle over to the other side of the rifle. The redesigned pistol grip is MUCH more ergonomic, making it considerably easier to reach the safety with the thumb to switch it to fire mode (though still slightly awkward to push back up to safe -- but that may improve as the controls break in). For those who are wondering: The 556xi is a true LONG-STROKE piston (AK-style) that has been shortened in overall length; it is NOT a "short-stroke" piston as Sig incorrectly lists on their website and marketing materials. The piston is integrally fastened to the bolt through its entire travel (the charging handle connects them together, which is why it reciprocates with every shot). This is great news, as many rumors had spread that they simply switched to using the same short-stroke piston from their 516 model. The shortened length of the piston significantly reduces the "front heavy" feel of the previous gen "classic" models (and is probably comparable, or slightly lighter than previous gen "patrol" models, though I never had a chance to hold one of those). To keep that weight down, the polymer front hand rail on the standard xi is also the way to go. Not only does it cut weight a little further and feel very ergonomic, with nice stippling for a solid grip, but it also reduces heat transfer. After firing the first 100 rounds in about an hour (with not a single malfunction!), I was surprised how hot the barrel had become. The polymer handguard was quite warm, but comfortably so. My suspicion is that the aluminum swat rail version would get much hotter and become uncomfortable to hold after awhile, especially after a mag or two of rapid fire. I'm pleased I went with the standard version to keep things simple, light, and comfortable. The 30-round magazine that came with the Sig was in good functional condition, but scuffed up and "used" looking (military surplus?). But it fed the rounds fine. I purchased a translucent smoke colored Lancer L5 AWM magazine (30-round) that also worked flawlessly (and is much nicer than the factory included mag). The magazines seat well and empty mags eject with some vigor during reloads. The fold-down sights are perfectly adequate as back up sights or even primary sights. The rear sight has two apertures. I suspect they are zeroed for 100 yards, but couldn't test that since I was at an indoor range. However, they seemed fairly accurate right out of the box on my rifle. To fold them down, you have to press a button on each sight, so they do lock into place. To flip them up, however, you don't need to press the button; you just pull up on each sight until it clicks into position. They deploy quickly. I like them, and if you plan to add a scope or a red dot, you'll be pleased that Sig switched to these over the previous (taller) Swiss-style diopter sights. Overall, I think this is an outstanding choice if you're looking for a reliable, soft shooting rifle (chambered in 5.56/.223) at a very reasonable price. It's a little more unique than all the AR's everyone else seems to be shooting these days, and it compares favorably with other battle rifles that are twice as expensive.

Best one I have yet. Bud's have the best price of them all. Will use them again. Note if you get one the trigger is very long and here is the way to fix that: Behind the trigger and under the grip lives what controls the "feel" of the trigger break. With my sig 556 pistol, the hex head fitting that contacts the trigger was too far forward, creating too much spring tension on take-up. Clamp the bright plated nut on the now exposed take-up spring with a set of needle nose pliers or similar tool. Using a 7mm or 9/32" open end wrench, adjust the hex head fitting that contacts the back side of the trigger in to the point the trigger breaks without touching this fitting. The trigger break is now extremely light ... Too light! Now, back the hex head fitting forward, so it will make contact with the back side of the trigger just before the trigger breaks.
